Quilt Guild Monthly Project Suggestions Needed
Each year my guild has a project that lasts all year with a monthly block or row assigned and then shared the next month. In November the finished quilt top is brought and shown. It is a lot of fun to see what each member created using the same directions. It really shows members personalities when choosing colors and materials to use. It also provides examples of how color values make a hug difference!
This past year we did a pizza box swap with someone adding a block to someones pizza box according to the owners specifications. For example i wanted 12" black and white blocks. I received my filled box last week and will make the top using these blocks with the addition of sashing, cornerstones, border, etc. At the November meeting we will reveal our tops or quilts. Now, I need ideas foe next year's project. Suggestions? |
What about taking the pizza box swap to the next level?
..... and do it as a Round Robin. When it returns to the owner, s/he will have a top ready to quilt. You could give specs for each Round as to what they are to do to ensure that each layer does not become just another strip of fabric added. Eg. add 3" pieced border; use applique; use HSTs .... etc. The specs would also help give some guidance while challenging the monthly person to get creative, and perhaps step outside of their normal comfort zone. |

I am at a point in my quilting journey that I prefer to work on my own projects. I don't participate in challenges or mysteries for that reason. The only idea that holds appeal for me would be a row robin? A block pattern could be given each month and you could interpret it as you wished. Your choose of colour fabrics, miniature or supersized etc.

For the Guild that my LAQ attends, she coordinated a 4) swap one year. Each month it was a TOT black, with a different colour mixed in. Not sure how many in each packet for the swap. So at the end, each had a mountain of 4Ps. With the TOT Black, for many this was a creative challenge, as it was not their normal working colours.
4Ps were chosen so that if they were not done to precision, they could all be trimmed easy enough to whatever size the recipient chose. Good idea! as we all know that when a 12-1/2" block is done, that some arrive with total precision and some ... well, let's just say, not so precise. From there ... a lot of different projects could be built. Some planned them during the year. Some waited til the end to find the inspiration. |
How about a real mystery quilt? There are several on this board run by PaintmeJudy. Members can choose their own color pallets and bring in their 'installments' each month to show their progress.
