What do you call the kinds of dishes that are dark blue enamel over metal with white speckles like for camping? I want to incorporate the dishes in a quilt but don't know what to search for. They are very old fashioned and I know there's a specific name for them, just don't know it :) antiques aren't my thing (at least until I become one!)

I think what you are looking for might be enamel.

Also got some good hits on the term "enamelware" http://images.google.com/images?hl=e...ls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&q=blue%20Speckled%20enamelware&um=1&ie =UTF-8&sa=N&tab=wi |
Yes. I think it is enamal ware or spatter ware. Not sure but have some pieces of it myself.
|
sometime called Spackleware too. I have some of those somewhere!

You've got my curiosity up. How are you planning to oncorporate the dishes into a quilt? Piece ~ Tiffany |
Curious, too. I love that old enamel ware.
|
probably applique. I think I'm going to have to "speckle" the fabric myself if I can find a perfect blue Bali.
|
An old toothbrush works great for speckles. Dip lightly into paint, then run your thumb across the bristles to send specks flying. You may want to use a large cardboard box as a containment system.

Is this what you have in mind, babeegirl.
There should be some Christmas fabrics that would work. |
I have two types and they are both red. Love them. Use them for everyday because they aren't heavy and easier for me to pick up.

We always called them melmac.
|
Hi - I think Melmac was a kind of plastic ware. We had some when I was a kid - my mom thought they were the latest thing. When they got too near flame they scorched on the edge!! LOL!!

I've seen it called graniteware, which my deep-south in-laws called grannyware.

now we are paying a premium for the old dishes...lol |
yep that's the kind in the picture, isn't that pretty! I'm thinking an applique of a wildflower bouquet in an old fashioned coffee pot like that
|
Yes, I recently saw them called Granite Ware, too. On eBay, I think.
