Looking for an idea to cut down on my large stash of green fabrics. I don't mind having to buy a complementary color or two if I can find the right idea. It's difficult to picture what a project using mostly greens would look like. I have lots of "scrappy" patterns but that usually brings in lot of other colors. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I love greens! I'll check & see what I can find. I'll be looking for my next project anyway so I'll look for both of us. BTW, I went to Newfoundland a few years ago & loved it! We have friends who have a house on Bay Bulls, can't wait to go back.

I started a Jewel Box with green and unbleached muslin and it looks great.

There's always Storm at Sea (regular pieced or paper pieced). Traditionally that pattern is done in all blues but I would think the green would look nice.

There's an old pattern called Village Green that uses all green prints. The block consists of triangles going around a plain center square. I tried doing a google search but all kind of house quilts came up instead. I don't know what the name got changed to. I have the pattern in an old book at home that I can scan into the computer and post if you're interested in seeing it.

How about adding one NEW fabric... St.Patrick's theme... and make a throw using Yellow Brick Road or some other simple block. Using lights and darks you could do any traditional blocks and it would still show up... or do a BOM type with several different blocks...try some of the Jennifer Chiavarini book series blocks.

As long as you have one repeating accent color/theme I'm sure anything would look fine.
Good luck.

Here's the site where I posted a quilt made with all purples. The picture in the magazine was all blues and I made a second one with all teals. I am now making one in all greens. I love the pattern and it would look good in any color! Just use a wide range of greens and it will be gorgeous!

I like the Storm at Sea & St. Patrick's suggestions! Keep us posted, I'm sure it'll be fantastic no matter what pattern you choose.
Pam's quilts all in one color are gorgeous!! It would look great in green, check out hers!!! WOW!!

I am also making a bear paws in all greens (I have way too many greens too!!) Here's the same pattern in blues and one in purples.

I was just looking at the French braid quilt book. If you have a variety of lights to darks, that might be a good pattern.

Marnie 06-08-2010 08:24 AM

LaurieE.
I would really like to see that Village Green pattern.
Thank you so much for the offer!

LaurieE 06-08-2010 08:40 AM

Marnie - Hopefully I'll have my computer back tonight (getting new hard drive) and I'll scan in it. If not tonight, it will be Thursday.

If all else fails-------send it to me!

You could use the greens to make paper pieced Christmas type (pines) for a Christmas quilt. It's never too early to start!

amma 06-08-2010 09:23 AM

I love monochromatic quilts :D:D:D
You can use the lights, med and darks to form many wonderful patterns. You could use one accent color throughout... Find a pattern and have some fun :D:D:D

I've always liked the Central Park pattern from Timeless Treasures. It was made for their batiks, but would work just as well with prints. Hancock's of Paducah has it as a free download. http://www.hancocks-paducah.com/Item--i-TT-CENTRAL-QP

I made a quilt of scrappy green pinwheels with just a sprinkle of red. It's a peaceful quilt. My daughter even likes it.

CarrieAnne 06-08-2010 01:33 PM

I like the ideafor the Christmas tree quilt. Those are so pretty!

jljack 06-08-2010 01:37 PM

Oh, how about a French Braid in greens and tans? That would be stunning!

I did this with all my blue scraps. I agree with finding a color to unify them together. In my case, I used the same yellow as the center of each block, with white all over sashing and a second yellow for the sashing squares.
If you like, let me know and I will find the pattern for you.

Marnie - here's the Our Village Green block.

Jannie 06-08-2010 02:53 PM

I think any of the suggestions would make a great green quilt.

LaurieE,
Thanks so much!

I'm thinking Ocean Waves would look great in green as well as blues...wonder if I can find a link.

Boopers 06-09-2010 09:20 AM

Several years ago I did a scrappy "Thousand Pyramids" using only greens and tans.

jolo 06-10-2010 04:29 AM

I love greens. I made a pattern called Faceted Jewels with all greans just mixed up and a cream colored background color. It was Gorgeous. I dont remember who the author of the pattern was by but you could use a search on the internet and find it.

You didn't say what your skill level is, but I am doing a very simple "string" quilt using all purples. It is coming together nicely - even better than I thought it would.

I would add some burgundys/purples and some whites/off-whites, but that's my taste. Does either of these quilts give you any ideas?

gollytwo 06-10-2010 08:00 AM

Years ago, I made a large full size handpieced HONEYCOMB block quilt in many different greens and love it.

nwm50 06-10-2010 08:04 AM

HOW ABOUT A YELLOW BRICK RD BUT ONLY USING YOUR GREENS? OR THE DP9 EVEN?

nwm50 06-10-2010 08:05 AM

BALOONIST//// LOVES YOUR QUILTS.

CORAMD...VERY PRETTY, DOING A GREAT JOB.

quiltlady37 06-10-2010 08:17 AM

How about a double or triple Irish Chain. It is a fairly simple block to do. It would be beautiful with all your greens.

Thank you! I didn't really know what it would look like when I started it - very happy with it now

Mariah 06-10-2010 11:47 AM

How about an Irish Chain? I know it is an old, old pattern, but I have seen it in graduated Greens, and it was beautiful.
Since it is almost a beginner quilt, you could make it in not a great outlay of time, and have a beautiful quilt--if you like Irish Chains!

Here is a picture of my double Irish Chain done in greens and an off white...It is a fairly easy pattern, if you have enough contrasting greens, you could make a triple Irish Chain, that would look awesome.
