I have bought kits from connecting threads as well and have been pleased. Another one of my favorites is Keepsake Quilting.

I did a BOTm from a retailer here in the UK and some of the fabrics were of a very poor quality. I well never buy from them again.

Don't know about a kit... might do!

I have never bought a BOM, but have been tempted-I just find I can't get past the price (expensive)plus hearing several people complaining about either quality of fabric or not getting enough put me off. Until a few months ago, I lived overseas with no fabric shops available so I loaded up my stash on my annual trips to the states. I like picking out my own fabrics anyway from my stash (though it usually takes me hours when limited of choice). I might buy the pattern if I really like it and may use their color combos as a guide, but not always.

You might find that after the fabrics are cut and sewn into the blocks they might be just fine. Hope so. But if you make it up and give it away at least you will have the pattern and a better idea of how to put it together the next time.

I very rarely purchase a kit. I used to work at our LQS and cut a billion of them. We would make a sample of the quilt and the cut kits for it. The customer could see the finished product before they purchased the kit. For myself...I perfer the "thrill of the hunt" and I like to chose my own fabrics for most of the things I make.

I love kits. They're not what I do all the time, just when I love a quilt pattern and the fabric they've worked it up in. I've bought kits from Fons and Porter, Keepsake Quilting and the FQS. All of them have been great. Maybe it's because I don't prewash. One time I actually had too little of one fabric. I called them (Keepsake Qltg) and they promptly sent me out some more free, and no shipping.

Worst case scenerio, you can resell the kit on Ebay. You know what they say - "One mans trash is another mans treasure". Someone will love it. If the price is right it will sell.

I bought a kit once and had no problems with it. The next time, I just purchased the fabrics needed to make the quilt in the kit. It was much more difficult to search out all of the fabrics, than purchasing just the kit would have been. I have nothing against kits, I like them, but they cost more than doing it yourself so I don't buy them. :thumbup: :thumbdown: 8-)
