i am in love with this quilt for my soon to be Nephew. The mom is decorating in trains. I thought it would be perfect, even as a play rug.
But is this too expensive? Maybe I can find a promo code somewhere. http://www.fatquartershop.com/store/...92&Parent_Ids= what ya think? |
well it's only 36x45 so it is just over two yds of fabric. if you really love the ones they offer for the kit, it's worth it.
if not you'd have to have or buy different ones to make it. |
It's not horribly priced, considering they include the fabric for the back and the binding... it's more expensive than if you picked your own fabrics, but if you really like the fabrics and size, I say go for it.
|
it is adorable, I love the pattern, I tried to find the pattern by googling but I cant find it. FQS said they sell this one exclusively.
|
If you especially like the fabric, I would go for it. I buy very few quits, but if I like everything about the kit or afraid the fabric may not be available when I go to look for it. I buy it.
|
You get the fabric in the right amounts, plus the pattern, PLUS you said it would be perfect- so I vote yes it's worth it!
|
Usually with kits they're cheaper than buying the fabric individually. Plus if you need 1/4 yard of something, the kit would include it but most websites require a 1/2 or 1 yd minimum cut, so you end up buying way more fabric than if you just buy the kit... from experience
The kits just seem expensive since they're upfront about costing $50. The fabric is deceptive since each yard is only $8 or whatever, and your cart has the final total |
go and check out Connecting Threads..they have some great kits...and a lot of them are on sale this week for up to 50% off......

It doesn't look that difficult to guestimate the block size , number, and dimension of the final quilt.
|
Compared to a lot of kit prices I've seen, that one seems not too bad, price-wise. If you have not done so already, look at a lot of other kits (Connecting Threads; Keepsake Quilting, etc.) ... see sizes, what's included with them and what is the cost. That should help you to decide.

Have you seen the Salina Yoon train activity quilt?
http://www.bugfabric.com/images/rjrtrains1.jpg At fabric.com you can get all four panels for 15.96+shipping and I am sure you might be able to even find a coupon even though they are on sale to make it even cheaper. http://www.fabric.com/quilting-fabri...on-trains.aspx |
I ordered a quilt kit from them and was so happy. I could have just ordered the fabric, but it was just a little cheaper that way and with the kit I had the pattern in hand. They send plenty of extra fabric so if you make a mistake cutting you have some to fix it. I was really happy with my kit.

thanks |
The kit isn't a bad price since it includes the backing, pattern, and binding. Go for it!

Yeah if you figure they probably give you 2 yards for the top, 1.5 for the back, and maybe a half for the binding (and they may even give you more than that). At $8.50 a yard, that would already cost you $34. Throw in the pattern and the help they have given you coordinating everything, I'd say it's a right on price.
