Quilt labels

for our preemie quilts, we put a small label on the back for the child's name and birthdate and our own name plus our Guild name.

I ran out labels , usually supplied by a member. I didn;t like the idea of gluing fabric to a sheet of printer paper, as I had tried before, so---big idea

I had a package of Avery Full Sheet Labels paper, laid down a white fabric wrong side up. released a sheet of paper off the sticky sheet, placed sticky side down on fabric and cut out around the paper, Went thru' the printer perfectly.:thumbup::thumbup:

Necessity is the mother of invention....great job.

You don't need to "glue" fabric to paper for a printer. Just cut a piece of Reynolds freezer paper to size and dry press your fabric to it. Goes thru just fine and peals right off the fabric without leaving any residue. I've been doing it for decades!

jan, do you put it thru an HP printer or an Ink Jet Printer?

I have heard that the DeskJet ink doesn't last too long with washings.

I have always used an HP 3-in-1 ink jet printer. I wash my quilts after they are bound, but sew the label on AFTER washing the first time. Months later if I wash again, they seem to keep the ink just fine.

@onemoe: I have done the same printing process as Jan in VA, using a 3-in-1 printer or an ink jet printer, but I press the label after printing and the heat seems to set the ink. I did several samples and washed them and print stayed the same with no fading or running. Good luck.
