Quilt lost in Colorado Fires
1 Attachment(s)
My friend's daughter and husband recently lost their home and all of it's contents in the fires raging through Colorado. My friend made a beautiful quilt which was hanging in her daughter's home. She would like to try to re-create this quilt, but is not sure of the pattern. Below I have included the only photo available. My apologies for the poor quality, but under the circumstances it is the only one found.
While I think I can make a pattern, I would really appreciate more information so that the size would be correct and the yardage required would be closer than my guesstimate. Any help will be so appreciated!! |
I wish I could help; so sad. I lost a house to a fire and it just devestates you. Will add them to my prayers.

OMG, it that is not the same pattern, is certainly close. Wow, I am sorry to hear such a lovely creation was lost, but better to loose a quilt than a person. I am hoping that the young woman and her family are physically okay. I realize that the sentimental value of the quilt can never be restore even is another was made by the same person that made the original or if she received 1,000 just like it, which is heart breaking.

Ladies, with all your help, YES, that is the quilt! My friend, Judy, will be so grateful! Dunster, what an amazing eye you have!! Thank you so much!!

So sorry to hear about your loss. The fire was so devastating. We vacationed there almost 25 years ago. It was so beautiful there. The pictures of the lost homes are heart breaking. So much has been lost.

I will never forget when I was about 11 or 12, we lost our home, including all our winter clothes, coats, etc., pictures, you name it. I just cannot tell you how frightening that was for a child. Then, in 1982, my sister and her husband's house caught fire (due to the builder's carelessness -- you can't mortar brick to wood -- it just doesn't work! This happened about 5 days before Christmas! An awful time for my sister and her children! God be with your friends and keep them safe!

does anyone know......is there any organization that will be collecting quilts for Colorado fire victums??
|
There seems to be so many natural disasters and folks are so resilient and brave. The fires were heartbreaking. Looking around my little home there is a whole lot of stuff that I could live without, even my machines and quilts. But there are some things that would be so very hard to lose. Things my deceased son made me, pictures of beloved relatives and friends that are no longer here. It would be such a special gift if the quilt could be duplicated.

That's my summer quilt, on my bed as I type
Made 20 years ago when I was still living in NYC. I love that quilt - needs a new binding, as it's wearing out. Glad Dunster found it for you.

As far as I have heard, there wasn't a quilt collection of any kind yet, but I do know that there was an organization that was looking for 12 1/2 squares of fabric .... if you would like, I can post the information on the board for you and as a personal message. The organization is collecting the squares and then putting the squares together and then they donating the batting, backing, etc. If you would like to donate entire quilts, I am sure they would welcome them. I feel so lucky that my life is only affected by the smoke in the air...and my thoughts are with those that are having to deal with their homes being in the line of the fires...... |
dunster, you are a genius! I'm sure lynneander's friend is most grateful to you.
My heart goes out to everyone in CO as these fires are burning. From my deck I can see the huge billows of smoke from the Pony Fire here in Montana. We live right next to a large national forest, and our small ranch (22 acres), and others...about 120+ homes are constantly on watch for fires. Praise God, none have come close, but we are prepared. |

The Sewing Circle 2948 Council Tree Ave Suite 107 Fort Collins, CO 80525 if you do send them anything, they ask that you please enclose a note letting them know that your package is to help support the Colorado wildfire victims. They are looking for 12 1/2" by 12 1/2" squares....they can be something creative or simply one solid block of fabric that will be added to scrappy quilts. Or you can send completed quilts, almost completed quilts...anything that can be quickly stitched together. http://www.the-sewingcircle.com/ That is the website address to the group that is putting together the quilts, etc.... Also, they asked me to thank everyone in advance for any and all help that is being given to them. |

Thanks for the address. I will give the info to my guild President and see if we can't help someway.
Prayers for those in need. |
Please pass on our thoughts and prayers to your friend and her family.

Bravo, Dunster!

Wow, Dunster, you have an amazing eye! The next time I am trying to identify a pattern I know who to ask.
I'm so sorry that their home and such a beautiful quilt was lost, but thankful that they did not lose their lives. Things are replaceable. People are not. |
We also lost our home in a fire. Ours was about 2 years ago and was caused by a blast of a huge PG&E pipe line in San Bruno. The fact that you will be trying to duplicate that quilt for her will have more meaning to the family than you can image. Even a few items that can be recovered or duplicated makes the process of becoming whole again easier. You are giving a wonderful gift to a friend.
