I don't have a clue how to quilt it but that is one stunning quilt. I just love it.

Wow, that quilt definitely talks, what a great pattern and beautiful piecing!
I know you're not liking the idea of quilting on the prints, but I'm seeing quarter circles (similar to a baptist fan pattern) in the printed circles, stippling (maybe small cherry blossoms) in the white square areas to make the black squares and prints pop, and leave the sashing strips alone. No matter what you decide, this is a stunning quilt and your friend will be ecstatic! |
Sorry I can't help with the quilting, but that is amazing! I am currently trying to determine how to quilt a gift for my DGS made from the pattern "Eclipse" and done in oriental fabrics(mostly taupe and other neutrals). My DGS made the comment that he didn't know how I found that many fabrics without flowers in oriental design! Of course, a guy doesn't want flowery quilts! LOL

Love the idea of koi fish in the borders - what about a ying-yang or a large chrysanthemum in between each block? I love the layout - unexpected and demands the eye! Great job!

I would do a curved cross-hatch on the circular quadrants in a color that blended in. SID on the Lattice and different fills in the black and white square areas quilting black on black and white on white so the quilting stays subtle but adds some nice texture.

I tend to try and visualize echo quilting as detailed above. that sounded pretty awesome, sweetie. Of course, as you said, it needs to speak to you. I love what you've done here, and however you decide, I have no doubt your best friend will just love it. She is honored that you have done that for her in the name of awesome friendship. Congratulations
