I am going today, friday. My friend and I don't plan on getting there until after lunch. My local quild is taking a bus there today so there will be a lot of them. My friend and I don't like to be stuck with the crowd so we go by ourselves. I will be the plump lady in black and white with the white hat with the red rusched rose on it.

Introduce yourself if you see me.

Mary

Is anyone going on Saturday?

Lisanne 07-31-2009 05:35 PM

I went! I was the one whose mouth was hanging open to the ground.

It was my first ever trip to a quilt show. I've heard it's not as large as some, but I think I was actually overloaded by all the artistry there.

I was tickled to recognize a few quilts that I've seen pictures of on the Internet. I'm hoping someone will post a few of the ones at this quilt show, because there were some dazzlers and I couldn't find my digital camera to take along.

Anyone have special favorites? I can remember four that blew me away. Two were snow scenes, one of a snowy woods and one of an old-fashioned town. Amusingly, both were done by women in hot climates, one in Florida and one in Texas. A third was a picture of four elderly sisters, so painstakingly detailed that every shade of light was captured with a different fabric. Very tiny pieces, tons of quilting stitiches. My absolute favorite was another woods scene in summer greens, browns and blues. Well, many more blew away than those four, but there are too many to even mention.

I aspire to make really good quilts, but I don't think I can even aspire to make quilts at that level.

I was there. I am sorry I didn't see your messages before I left this morning. I have pics of a couple of them. Wasn't it a wonderful show?!?!?! I loved the four sisters too, but my favorite quilts were the minis. The two girls I was with had never been to a quilt show either. I haven't been in years.

BTW I gave out a dozen or so Guild cards to ladies today. So I hope we will see a few new members.

I wanna go too :(

I thought the quilt show was nice but! It keeps getting smaller. I went looking for YLI handquilting thread and continious line stencils. I had a hard time finding either. I got one stencil and two spools of thread and two pieces of fabric. I spent as much on admission and lunch as I did quilt stuff. Many of the quilts in the show I have already seen at other shows or in magazines. I didn't like the lighting either.
I got some really bad news. Those of you who have been to the Spring Show in Lancaster know it is one of the largest shows on the east coast. The lady who ran it for years is quiting. Unless someone steps up to the plate there will be no more spring show.
I like the shows because it is the only place you can shop from a wide range of vendors. We have a few shops within a reasonable drive of my home and accesable hours, but nothing local now with fabric except Joanns. As a handquilter I like to feel the fabric before I purchase. I have gotten a few things on line but that is always pot luck. The older I get the more reluctant I am to drive at least an hour to shop at a real quilt or fabric store. I fear in this economy quilting stuff will get even harder to find.

If you can catch a plane today, you can still make it in time for the last day of the show! Hershey Lodge looks like an very nice hotel, and of course there's chocolate.

Sounds fun, but I can't. I sure hope those who go will tell us all about it

It occurred to me that pics of some of the other quilts might be online already, so I looked posted the links I found farther down in her thread. Don't think anyone else noticed them, though, but take a look.

I was at the show on Saturday. Hershey show is my favorite, though I do like Lancaster and will be sorry if it doesn't continue.
