Quilt over embroidery

HI
I have made several french braid quilt table runners, with the middle block being an embroidered block. My question is when I put the on the frame to get quilted, can I quilt over the embroidery or will it look funny?
Thanks
NormaBeth

Most quilters will quilt around embroidery or applique. Finished appearance is important, so you might want to plan just how you will quilt the area around the motif!

Everything I've seen with embroidery has had quilting around the embroidered design.

I'm glad you asked this question because I'm getting ready to start a Redworks. Now I'll know how to quilt it when it's finished.

I would not quilt through the embroidery-around it is ok

I wouldn't quilt over the embroidered areas either :) :) :)

I have made a couple of embroidered quilts, and I quilted around the embroidery, not over it. And they both turned out well.

I have quilted around and thru. When i cross hatched thru I used So Fine. It looked good and the customer loved it.

I have had a redwork quilted right over the design and it looked fine. I used thread to match the backing and it almost disappeared. The embroidery still stood out. Did Alex Anderson's Hearts and used an allover pattern. So it all depends on whether you are doing the work or can spend the time or the money for more complex work. Either can be just fine.
