Quilt Panels
I’ve stumbled across some lovely quilt panels but I’m uncertain how to incorporate them in simple projects suitable for beginners.
Are they a good starting point for novices? I thought they might work well for table runners or lap quilts. Am I on the right track? |
the possibilities are endless! here are some ideas https://www.google.com/search?hl=en&...39.bhkALoE-9HA

Borders, borders, borders! Any kind of border you want. I've seen panels as the center of a quilt, set to the left side of the quilt, cut into smaller blocks and sashed. There is so much you can do with a panel. Just have fun with them.

Often the manufacturer of the panel will have free patterns available on their website. You can also google images of panel quilts or look on Pinterest. I have made a couple of quilts out of panels and also quilted them for other people. Here is a pic of one I made:

I just made a wall hanging from a panel my grandson had picked out and I just made a border that was appropriate for what the panel was. He picked a bear panel with geese flying so I made flying geese and small bear paw patterns. I will post a picture when I get the binding on.

Panels can be very fun to work with. The one thing I have learned is to have "spacer" fabrics to make up for block sizes in the borders around the panel. Some panels don't end up the size you want if you just add equally around the panel. Spacer fabrics, like what feline fanatic has done with the fish fabrics borders, make it easier to incorporate blocks. I don't know if hers are the same all the way around but it the top and bottoms panels were an inch thinner, no one would notice.

equilter.com has a lot of free patterns that use panels. Some have elaborate borders and some are quite simple. I'm really good at buying panels, not so good at turning them into quilts.

Panels are great starting points for quilts doesn’t matter if you are a beginner or an advanced quilter- some fabulous quilts have been made ( by beginners) starting with a panel.

Wow! I’ll be buried in quilts. Thanks. :D

I saw a brief video that mentioned a few things. Would the center panel and border be easier to start with?
