Quilt pattern idea
I have been collecting pieces of fabric with snack items such as pretzels, pizza, nuts, cookies, popcorn etc....what kind of quilt pattern should I make so the pattern show, but not just be a large square surrounded by sashing...any suggestions? TIA

I would think one of the jar quilts with the jars filled with your different products would be neat.

If you haven't tried Falling Charms, that might be cute with the food stuff falling. You might want to check this site out. Might have more suggestions than using Google.

Hi Maniac - that is a good web site. Thanks for sharing. Bargello coming along :)
|
You could try a mosaic design where some of the patches are larger than others, some more rectangular, with sashing in between
|
There is a pattern called Galleria.
I think it would be a good pattern to showcase foods. I found a post somewhere with a pic of a quilt made using that pattern. Hold a sec... I'll check my bookmarks. Here is the quilt pic. I hope I am allowed to show pics from another forum. Guess admin will remove it, if it's inappropriate. http://forum.missouriquiltco.com/sho...-quilt-op.html Here is the website address for purchasing the pattern. http://www.ankastreasures.com/ http://www.createforless.com/Ankas-T...pid219904.aspx |
I was planning to make a D9P as a teen male charity quilt. For the middle squares I was planning to use bright colored squares and for the 4 inner squares I was planning to use a small black polka dot.
I would like to see what pattern you come up with. |

Well! Great minds think alike. Barb and QuilnNan, a jar quilt was the first idea that popped into my head too. I especially like the ones with different shaped and sized jars.
|
I think Yellow Brick Road and Turning Twenty would be good.

The Galleria pattern is new to me and ideal for focus prints! Thanks for sharing!

I just finished this brick/basket weave quilt using novelty fabrics. It goes together quickly since you are only adding the "sashing" to 2 sides. I used this pattern as inspiration
http://www.maryquilts.com/wp-content...est-Bricks.pdf but I changed the brick size to 4.5 x 6.5, and the sashing to 1.5 wide (or wider to allow for squaring up to a 6.5 inch unfinished block). |

I agree with Barb in Louisiana. I made one like that - jars full of snacks, fruit and other items for my Granddaughter's I Spy Quilt. Jenny has a tutorial on Missouri Star quilt site. Really fun and cute, too!
|
I like that idea, thanks....

I just worked on a quilt using veggies and fruits using Quiltville's Bricks & Stones. The large rectangle is 3 x 6 so a fairly decent size to show your fabric. Would have gotten this quilt finished if I had enough of the border fabric in my stash. Waiting for my order to arrive from CT.

This sounds adorable! A somewhat easy pattern and a great one for someone whose personal interests you may not be familiar with!
|
I am with the others, a jar quilt was my very first thought.

My daughter collected fat quarters on our various roadtrips across Canada, she was only 9 when she started! She made sure to get food that she liked (hmmmm no veggies in there?).
She hasn't finished her quilt yet (she is 13 now) but she's accomplished a lot. Attached is a picture of it on the design wall. Her name is Lisa so it was easy for her to convert to blocks. She cut all her blocks at 6 inches. |
What a neat way for Lisa to remember those road trips! Great eye candy....

You might want to give this Snack Attack quilt a try. I did it a couple of years ago. Carol Steely over at FunThread.blogspot.com wrote the pattern. You can find it here at http://www.quiltwoman.com/Carol-Stee...s-Designs.aspx and you can see more photos of my quilt at http://moosestashquilting.blogspot.c...ck-attack.html There are just a riot to make and might be perfect for your collection of snack fabrics. |
