Quilt Pattern?????
 

Would you please go to Appalachian Blog: http://www.appalachianquilts.blogspot.com/ On the November 30, 2012 ---I believe it is titled quilts ---- well the 2nd quilt is like between a orange peel or catherdral---but it is like a square on point with the petals on the seams--- well does anyone know the pattern name and where to find it???

I just looked but I don't know for sure - but it looked like a cathedral window to me - I would email the woman witht the blog and ask.

yes, you are right but it's easy to do. this has been discussed often here. circles made, sewn together and edges folded to make "petal" look. orange peel is one name, robbing peter to pay Paul, and others.

this shows on the bottom (scroll way down) the circle template with square inside that you would need or make one up like to do this method. youtube must have something too on this. circle majic is what the template is called from brandysquilts.com

Email the blog owner and ask her. She does hang here periodically, too, so maybe she'll pop up. My first thought was Orange Peel, too...

In my opinion it appears to be the #301 pattern shown in Barbara Brackman's Encyclopedia of Pieced Quilt Patterns, page 58. It is called Tea Leaf, Compass, Lover's Know, Lafayette Orange Peal, Circle Upon Circle, Bay Leaf, or Pincushion, depending on the source. The earliest example of this pattern she found was ca. 1825-50 in the Shelburne Museum. (#164)

I e-mail Appalachian quilts and they quilted the quilt --- the lady who pieced it has gone to Florida for awhile so Appalachian Quilts can't ask for awhile. Appalachian Quilts wondered if it was from a magazine---so I was just wondering if someone has seen it

The half moons aren't folded. The entire thing is pieced. I know it came from a mag not purchased templates. The mag would have been last year or before, as this is the second one I have quilted....

The pattern is called Emma's Hope Chest by Kay Gentry (Noble Needle) The link above is for the website. Customer made it bigger and didn't do some of the applique.

The way it was done was kinda like the center of a double wedding ring and the melons were added to the four sides to make the square.

This looks like The old Robbing Peter to Pay Paul Block to me. I may be wrong. It is a beautiful quilt.

EDIT: The more I look at it the more I think it is. They just used the white on all the curved pieces instead of 'borrowing' the color from the center of the block to go into the neighboring curve piece of the block.

Please take a closer look.

It is very easy to do but I have trouble explaining things I went to a sewing festival where it was a demo by Hancocks
who was selling the circle cutting tool you sew 2 circles right sides together all around ---make s slit turn and press have a square that fits inside the circle trace around it sew another circle to it on drawn line then turn the orange peel part around and follow and quilt when finished makes a neat table runner I know clear as mud

MISSOURI STAR QUILT COMPANY sells the template and even has a tutorial on using it.

it looks like Betty Cotton's The Cotton Theory. it's a quilt as you go. Others have the same type block. Cheryl Phillips does too.

Okay with the information and link supplied by the blog owner about that quilt and its designer, I realized I've seen that quilt before on the Accuquilt site. It IS a "Rob Peter To Pay Paul" pattern. The quilt's designer apparently used one of Accuquilt's dies to make it.

The name was listed as Emma's Hope Chest, but agreeing with cherrio....Missouri Star's Jenny Doan does have a great tutorial on this quilt. Have the fabric and ruler (circle) just needing the courage. This quilt helps. Thanks for a great site listing.
