quilt pattern

I have 2 fabrics that I am itching to use....need a pattern. HELP

Barb in Louisiana 03-07-2015 05:02 AM

Pictures of the fabric, please.

Can you add more fabrics or will it be only the two?

janislynne 03-07-2015 05:06 AM

I bought this fabric age ago so dont know if I can find a fabric to go with it.

janislynne 03-07-2015 05:12 AM

I have no idea how to do pics!!! LOL

PenniF 03-07-2015 06:32 AM

Hi Janis....if you Google "two color quilts" you can find a BUNCH of photos there. I've seen lots here on the Board as well. Good luck.

ManiacQuilter2 03-07-2015 07:06 AM

I agree with PenniF. Google TWO COLOR QUILTS. One of the patterns that will show up is the D9P. Even a single or double Irish chain can look pretty with just using two colors.

Okay, I really really like two color quilts, and I have several. I am looking for pictures of them, in case they interest you. Okay, I have found five....

If none interest you, that is fine....I am really just stalling here because cleaning house is "next on my list." But here they are, just in case. :)

1st 9 patch and rail fence, on point

2nd focus fabric with strip of white on each side, alternating

3rd chevron....added white as a 3rd color

4th Study in Black and White....free pattern on line somewhere...(yeah, mine is purple and white)

5th focus fabric with 4 patch and half square triangle.... guess white was 3rd color....

This is the one that I made for our neighbors for Christmas. Not home so can't find the real name. If interested, I can pull the magazine.

I'd like the name of this, I really like it.

I like two color quilts more colors than that and I have to ask someone to help! color is not what I do best!

nativetexan 03-07-2015 02:10 PM

I just sort of made it....with the focus fabric all being the same size, and then a strip of white on the top and bottom. Then I alternated the blocks. In researching though, it looks a lot like Take Two. And I found a reference to that pattern on our board, though I couldn't seem to locate the pattern from the link provided. Maybe you will have better luck?

It should be easy enough to do without a pattern if I did. :) Promise.

I really like this example of the Drunkard's Path. Only two colors, and stunning.

love two color quilts. so crisp and clean. redwork looks great!

IrishgalfromNJ 03-08-2015 02:28 AM

Suggesting the disappearing hourglass. Missouri Star Quilt Company, Jenny Doan, has a video tutorial on youtube on how to make it and it looks great in two colors.

Very nice quilts. I like an Irish chain. It is not difficult at all.

I love this! It's amazing what new patterns can be created from simple elements. That magical some day when I have time I would love to get some quilting software AND learn how to use it so that I play around with blocks and come up with new combinations like this. The blues are beautiful.

hray 03-08-2015 06:47 AM

I made a two color (plus a neutral background) quilt using the Missouri Star video about "Double Friendship Star." She talks about using jelly rolls but I just cut my own fabric into strips. It went very fast and I loved the fact that the second color stars "magically" appear when you put together the blocks.

jrhboxers 03-08-2015 07:25 AM

The pattern is called Autumn Almanac by Scott Murkin. It was published in the Spring 2013 issue of Quilt's from Quiltmaker's 100 Blocks. It is charted as a three color, but I just used the two. It is pretty simple really. If I make this again, I will make the bars of the blocks a little longer, like 1/4" or 3/16". There were a few that ended up being a little small, I would rather cut a little off than be short.

Here is a link to purchase the magazine.
http://www.quiltmaker.com/patterns/d...html?idx=15072

The issue was a great asset to me. I have made five different quilts out of it. So well worth the price of the issue.

Lady Diana 03-08-2015 07:41 AM

There are patterns for two or three fabric quilts out there....just google.

thimblebug6000 03-08-2015 08:37 AM

This lady had a mystery quilt in 2 colours and the pattern is still available I think. https://carterquilter.wordpress.com/...color-mystery/

I love this pattern also, it is fast and easy. It is a variation of a rail fence, where your center 'log' is wider and the 2 side 'logs' are narrower. I made one for my daughter in a beach theme with each of the center logs a different fabric, and all the side logs the same. It came out great!

Illusions is very pattern for two fabrics. I made two and really like them. I think a lot of patterns could be used for two color quilts.

johans 03-09-2015 04:45 AM

two fabric quilt ideas

I made a black/red and white/red quilt for my DBIL who is battling cancer. I used Anita Grossman Solomon's "Anita's Arrowhead" pattern. I got it free from the internet. It made a wonderful quilt. Only problem with the pattern is that you're seaming a lot of bias edges, so starch well. It went together quite easily because of her clever method.

johans 03-09-2015 05:07 AM

Try Anita's Arrowhead by Anita Grossman Solomon. I did one with black/red and white/red and it was wonderful. Her techniques are very labor-saving, but have your fabric well starched! You'll be joining blocks with bias edges. I think you can still get the pattern online.

minky 03-09-2015 11:31 AM

One of my favs is the "Dorothy Quilt from Windham Fabrics. It's very simple and beginner friendly. I only takes 2 fabrics and you can increase the size by adding an extra border. And, best of all the pattern is free at Windham website.

sailsablazin 03-09-2015 12:03 PM

I have 2 absolutely gorgeous quilts in mind. As a matter of fact I have all of the material for both.
Look online for "Peppermint Easy" quilt block pattern and look at the cover of
"More Simple Quilts with Splash, Dash, and Panache." (amazon carries this book).

Eva Knight 03-09-2015 01:04 PM

A disappearing 4 patch would be great. And if you don't have enough material to make the size quilt you want, get a print to match and put a border around it.

Rose_P 03-09-2015 07:37 PM

One on my bucket list is Hunter's Star. It's great in two colors. Do a Google image search to see many examples.

AudreyB 03-09-2015 08:18 PM

Looks like "Fractions" to me. You can Google it to see a picture.

Dina, you're the queen of 2 color quilts. They are all beautiful. I like two color too. I think I'm going to make a couple of quilts like you've posted. You've inspired my.

Boston1954 03-10-2015 06:08 AM

If you are looking to use just the two, how about Hole in the Barn Door?

carolynjo 03-10-2015 12:10 PM

With a renewed emphasis on solids, look for solid cottons that will go with your two other colors.
