I do both. I repeat patterns for certain things and do new things for other things. I always do pinwheels for baby quilts but no two are the same. I have also used the same square in a square pattern for the girl's twin size quilts. There are some other patterns that I've made two or three quilts from. And there are always new patterns to try out.

I love log cabins and have made at least 25 and no two are alike. I also really like the Ohio star, so have made several. I love finding new ways to play wioth old patterns. If I see a new pattern that strikes my fancy sure will give it a try. I feel thats the best of both worlds. Nothing wrong in having a favorit pattern and doing it many times. Nothing wrong with doing a new pattern each time you make a quilt. That's the true beauty of quilting we all like to do different things, and that's great, if not we would all be making the same quilt, then what?

It depends. If it is a quilt that I need to get out the door fairly quickly, I use one of a couple of trusty patterns that I can whip up quickly.
If I am making something for me I like to try new patterns and fabrics.
But most of my quilts are gifts or donations so I tend to use the same patterns, a lot!!!! Because the fabric is usually so different for each one, it makes each quilt look and "feel" different. The pattern I use most calls for 12 to 18 fQ's and borders, you can change the look of a quilt really quickly by the fabrics you use.

For me I usually don't like to make th same thing again I get bored doing the same pattern over again. I guess I like the challange of figuring out something new. I have only made the same quilt a couple of times but not right away did others inbetween. LuAnn

I've made the same table topper about 7 times. I've given them to family members spread out all over the country so that whenever we use them we will think of each other. I love the pattern but will be doing something different once all the obligations are met -- one ready for FMQ and then only one more to go!

I've made the same baby quilts (by request) so many times I got sick of doing them! I had a lady want to order 5 of them last year for Christmas presents, was going to pay me generously, but I had already had my fill of them. So I say, do a few, move on! I like doing a little of everything.

I have done both. For years I didn't know how to do anything but square blocks and sometimes with strips in between, but each quilt different because the blocks were hand painted (now embroidered). A few years ago I started watching quilting shows & tried new patterns. I think it depends on what you feel comfortable with and "what" you are willing to try. There are no quilt police - do what you enjoy. For me - today I too say... so many quilts, so little time and I enjoy what I do.

I think the only pattern I have repeated is a log cabin. I like trying new things and I don't usually have enthusiasm for something I've done before.

There is usually some new technique or way of putting things together in each quilt I make. It broadens my knowledge and experience and maybe that one thing is used in another quilt. It gets easier to do things since I've done it before.

I did the same pattern two times in a row. By the time I finished the second one I swore I'd never do that again. I still love the pattern, and even though I used different fabric on each, I never got that....Oh, that's what it'll look like feeling making the second one. So I make all different ones. Not saying I wouldn't make the same one again. Just not one after the other.
