I rarely make the same pattern twice. I like to try something new.

Yellow Bird 12-09-2010 06:02 AM

I have a short attention span so I tend to do something new. That is one of the reasons I like piecing and quilting...so many options and you don't have to make a whole quilt to make something pretty.

eightylady 12-09-2010 06:09 AM

callie, where are the "quilting shows"? Thanks for the info, 80

eightylady 12-09-2010 06:12 AM

jitkaau, what are "colourwash" quilts? Sounds interesting, 80

But most of my quilts are gifts or donations so I tend to use the same patterns, a lot!!!! Because the fabric is usually so different for each one, it makes each quilt look and "feel" different. The pattern I use most calls for 12 to 18 fQ's and borders, you can change the look of a quilt really quickly by the fabrics you use.

Can you share the patern? i am looking for a pattern for charity quilts.

quiltin tyme 12-09-2010 06:20 AM

I've only repeated one pattern in 27 years and that is the Wedding Ring. There are so many patterns and I just love something different. I think that I would get bored doing the same pattern more than once.

fireworkslover 12-09-2010 06:41 AM

All the quilts I've made were different patterns. Last year I got stuck on OBW's for a while and made four of those in a row. But now I'm back doing something different. I do have 12 hunks of fabric for more OBW's tho.

grannyp70 12-09-2010 07:16 AM

I love your avatar its beautiful. I like doing different kind of blocks.

Annaquilts 12-09-2010 07:20 AM

I'll try a variety but have my favorites.

stnele 12-09-2010 07:34 AM

Holice or will your pattern be available at Cathy's in Sturbridge?or will you be bringing a sample quilt to her store?
Pat

GrammaBabs 12-09-2010 07:36 AM

No, I seldom do the same pattern twice. There are way too amny things out there I want to try! The exception has been the four layer cake pattern, have done two of those babies.

kbs 12-09-2010 07:45 AM

I try different patterns, some work, some don't. I have done Irish Chain more than once, it is my favorite pattern.

EagarBeez 12-09-2010 08:45 AM

I try different patterns, each a little more challenge then the one before it

brightstar_202 12-09-2010 08:49 AM

When it comes to quilting I do what I like for the person who I am making it for, or what they might l like. Be it a star embroidered or what ever.
I want it fairly easy since I am fairly new at it but they all turn out pretty good.

catrancher 12-09-2010 10:57 AM

Even if I like a pattern and plan to make it again, I like trying new ones, and so I rarely repeat one.

Bonbonary 12-09-2010 11:22 AM

I'm a fairly new quilter & like to try out new techniques. This way I can improve my skills. I've also done a BOM from the LQS so I could get a sample of 12 different star patterns. Hopefully, one of these days I can design my own quilt based on what I've learned from different types of quilts.

Janice Thompson 12-09-2010 11:25 AM

I like to find patterns that have different techniques. Try not to repeat.

grannyQ 12-09-2010 11:48 AM

I have made 2 double wedding ring quilts. One is on the quilt frame now and one I finished in 1984. Both are for myself. I just finished 4 dresden plate quilts. One each for my 4 children. I made different colors and different quilting patterns but I don't ever care to make another dresden plate quilt. These are all queen size and I really got tired of them. They are going to be Christmas presents for my children this year. The ones for the grands are all different patterns so that will make things go faster.

Minister 12-09-2010 12:07 PM

I repeat only on request. I like challenging myself.

purrfectquilts 12-09-2010 12:16 PM

I sometimes use the same pattern such as log cabin, dresden plate, double wedding ring but no two things I have ever made are the same. Even if I had orders for 10 wall hangings for instance, every one is different in some way.

But, some people like tried and true and there is nothing wrong with that!

Whatever works for you is just great. They are all loved.

Barb Workman 12-09-2010 12:56 PM

Holice,

Do you have the actual pattern for your picture? That is absolutely gorgeous and I am into doing things that are "outside the box." I'd love to get a copy of that pattern.

Barb. Workman

crankygran 12-09-2010 02:14 PM

I seldom repeat a pattern, more often repeat units such as HST flying geese or four patches.

tutty 12-09-2010 02:36 PM

For my twin nieces different border and backing and now 2 Christmas gift quilts because got 2 the same jelly rolls on sale !! One to brother and family and one to nephew and family. I do like and have several and I mean several books and printed off computer marked for future ones ! Hope I live long enough !! LOL Lord knows

jojosnana 12-09-2010 03:29 PM

I have made many flannel rag quilts because each family member asks for one if they weren't the one to get this years. However, all the adults are now warm and snuggled in and I am currently trying to catch up on the babies. They are coming faster than I can make them. To answer the original question I love doing different quilts but sometimes you just have to go with the flow.

Lizzie151 12-09-2010 04:51 PM

Hi Ladies, I read a lot but don't always join in. I visited a brand new quilt shop in Muncy, PA today. On display was a quilt made from an out of print book. It is from one of the Miss Jump Books, designer.... Jan Patek... book " Miss Jump's Memories". The pattern is "Morning Glory Angels". I would LOVE to buy the book or a copy of the "Morning Glory Angels" pattern if anyone would be willing to sell it.

I'm looking for a fast and easy runner pattern. Is your pattern out there somewhere that I could get it online?

Gabrielle's Mimi 12-09-2010 05:16 PM

I love the challenge of trying new patterns. Plus, there are so many gorgeous quilts out there I only hope to live long enough to make many of them!

Not if it makes you happy, it isn't!

kwiltkrazy 12-09-2010 05:30 PM

I get really bored doing the same pattern over, I usually go a a year before I use a pattern again. Love to try new patterns.

fontmomma 12-09-2010 05:43 PM

Decided to practice on quilting preemie baby quilts first. I plan to take them to a hospital where I was treated for cancer 3 yrs ago. I do this to repay them for being so nice to me. So far, I have given them baby bibs, adult bibs. and some "ugly dolls" (no hair no clothes and can be boys or girls). Good sewing practice) I can use up the smaller scraps, too.

Deecee 12-09-2010 05:46 PM

I have never done the same pattern twice. Once I have achieved a pattern, I move on.

Quilting Fran 12-09-2010 06:27 PM

I like to try different patterns. I have so many that I want to try, it could keep me busy for a long time. I have made nineteen Christmas table toppers like Riversong does. When I learn to post pictures I will show some on my work. For bed size quilts I always do different patterns. I also did a patchwork jacket by Uglecooks instructions.

nature1953 12-09-2010 06:44 PM

I only do 2 of the same pattern if 2 people have requested the same quilt, except for baby quilts. Sometimes I have to get
one done in a hurry and then I fall back to some easy favorites.

All Thumbs 12-09-2010 07:06 PM

Well I am an odd duck. First I learn a block and then I just go off on my own tangent arranging those blocks in various ways. I do this for about 5 charity quilts and then I go learn another block. As for patterns--I need not waste my money because once I get into the quilt about half way, I either loose my direction or like my own ideas better. Sometimes, it is a matter of time and I just throw on some borders if I become discouraged with trying to follow a pattern, anything to get the quilt done and on its way to Project Linus or Hope Haven. Quilting is my hobby and I doubt that there is a child out there that would be upset knowing I put something together incorrectly. :)

Cyn 12-09-2010 07:10 PM

I do them once and then I have to move on to next "to do"

IBQUILTIN 12-09-2010 07:11 PM

I have done several of one pattern, but a LOT of different ones too. It seems to me thats the way to increase my skills. I just keep trying new things, and I get WAY to many ideas from this board

Lizzie151 12-09-2010 07:15 PM

To add to my search for this book or pattern. I looked several different ways on Amazon and then went back and found it the last time. Ordered it and it's on it's way... Thanks

Threads of Love 12-09-2010 07:16 PM

I was looking at all the photos of the quilts I have made and realized that most were in the same pattern catagory. I guess we tend to stay with what we are comfortable with.
Maybe the new year I will try to stray from my box and try something new.

penski 12-09-2010 07:21 PM

i have not made the same pattern twice( not yet anyway)i always like to try something differant each time
