quilt pic

Recently I saw a quilt with Oprah, Jackie Kennedy and others. When the camera moved you could see a different person from each direction. I would like to see the pic again and don't know where to find the pic.

And another by the same artist:

These are quite intriguing (and certainly original!).

It was neat to see in person! It was on display at Paducah. The quilt wasn't smooth--the pieces stuck out about an inch from the back. When you moved from one side to the other, it changed faces. I can't imagine the imagination and vision that the person who did it has! There were beautiful quilts there!

This quilt was amazing! I saw it at the Lancaster show. On one of the sites mentioned above, there is a link to her website and on the back of another picture, it tells how she does it, including the frame. Not something I'd ever have the patience to do but very interesting.

Amazing...still trying to wrap my mind around this one!

That is really innovative work! It was interesting to hear how she was inspired to both make this kind of quilt and why she chose the women she did for the quilt. There were several quilts that I saw on one of the websites that also were inspiring one being a map of the US with a maze superimposed over it and containing facts and figures about the US. As you went through the maze starting in Washington state and traveling across all the states then ending in Maine, there were questions to answer about the states/country. Answers were provided on the quilt. What a great educational tool for both kids and adults.

Stunning what some quilters can come up with.

twinkie 04-30-2015 01:55 PM

Quick answer-you cut three photos into narrow but equal strips, sew them together alternating the strips (1,2,3,1,2,3,1,2,3 etc). After they are all sewn into one long strip, begin to make seams by leaving all the number ones and sewing the number twos to the back of the number three strips, creating pleats, repeat across the sewn strip. Not sure how to sew the top and bottom of the strip so that all three pictures are visible though, I guess you will have to by her pattern.....
