Such great response. Thank you all. Endless possiblitites!

You could also use a gun rack. You could add the rails to hold quilts instead of guns
I found a bakers rack at Hobby Lobby that I plan on using.
I have two, one was with a quilt that my husband won at a church bazaar several years ago and another oak one a friend of mine gave to me because she did not have room for it.

I have one but it is just a small wooden one.

In my family room, on the wall, I have a quilt hanger that I got at a local furniture store that says all it's things are 'Amish made.'
I change the wallhanging once a month, June is Father's Day, which around here, golf is the pasttime. July is patriotic themed, August is the Fruit Ladies on the beach I also put my sailor son's pics and awards he got in nuke school. I just realised I don't have the pic of him and the Captain when he got a 'Sailor of the Day' award on the USS Ronald Reagan, going to have to remedy that. There's also a photo of when our oldest graduated and they all play golf. This topic is very timely, I'm in the process of searching for a 'quilt cabinet' for our bedroom. I have 3 quilts with ties to my husband's grandma, to keep them to be passed on to my kids. It sits on the floor, so is really more of a piece of furniture |
I've always wanted one that doesn't stick way out from the wall because of my lack of space. Can you share the website where you got the instructions for building one? Thanks, Mary

I don't have a quilt rack, but I do have a glass quilt storage chest. It keeps my quilts dust free and I can see them through the glass.

I found a quilt rack at a Goodwill store, still new in the box, for $13. I was visiting my son in Washington at the time, and had to take it out of the box to get it in my suitcase to bring it home. It was easy to assemble, and is nice looking.

Mine aren't as pretty as some of those podted but I have a double garment rail on wheels that I drape quilts and tops over and also two wall-mounted rails (they were a couple of pounds - or dollars! from Ikea) and I hang quilts and tops on those using skirt hangers, that I also got from Ikea for less than a dollar each. :-D
Wall mounted rail Garment rail - on wheels so can be moved around. I also use it at fairs or exhibitions or if I give a talk. |
 double post

I have two that hang on the wall. and a saddle tack that works great
I have several that hang on the wall, one of which I found at a thrift store. I found one that stands on the floor also at a thrift store. It's painted. With flowers but works fine. I love the one pictured here that holds 3 or 4 quilts. I have seen lots of great ideas on here for displaying quilts. We are such clever people.

My dad made this for me and gave it to me Memorial Day Weekend. I love it!
That is great, I love that it is tall like a ladder and holds so many. He is very handy.
I have two. Both are wooden. One is an antique one that my husband needs to repair. The other one was made in a special workshop for kids with disabilities. It is made of pine also and I painted it to look antique sort of. I treasure this one because it was made years ago by special needs kids.
A cheap way to go would be one of those clothes drying racks you get at the hardware store.
I bought 2 this spring, 1 at Goodwill for 3.99 other one at yard sale for $1. Have passed up 2 more, only because I don't have room for more! They are great for hanging your strips on while you're sewing your top together.
Burkfabrics.com sells them.
I have four floor-standing ones. They all were received as gifts and I love each and every one.
I purchased a wood one last summer in a garage sale for $5. It is excellent condition and holds 3 quilts!
I have one that my DH made. My dad had cut down a walnut tree. The planks were drying in the barn. He died before he could use it, so my husband and bil had the wood planed and made quilt racks for mom, my sis, and me. They are a treasure to us.

Here's a picture of mine. My hubby made it for me 19 years ago. You can see the hearts better here: |
I have three. One is the antique clothes rack that was my mothers. It is larger than any newer ones I have seen recently. It holds an antique quilt and serves as sort of a room divider in the basement.
The other two were gifts from our oldest son and his family. The metal rack is from Pier One and serves in the guest room. The third one is of oak, quite heavy, and holds one quilt that I change seasonally decorating my living room. It has an open heart on a pedestal and is about 51 inches tall. |
I have three, one in each bedroom we use and one in my sewing room for strips ready to sew
I have three. one I bought at a yard sale and two that my DH made. One of them is part of a shelf unit that hangs on the wall and displays one of my hanging quilts.
I don't have one, but hope to have one day.
My quilt rack is an iron saddle blanket rack.....it's too cool and I love it.
I have one that I bought at Family Dollar (I think.) about 4 years ago. My quilt rack only holds 3 quilts. I just have to make 3 quilts to go it. I still have to put it together. I have left it out in my living room hoping my DH would volunteer to put it together for me. NO such luck.   I will have to break down & put it together myself.. I LOVE all of the ladder type quilt racks. You can fit sooo many quilts on them.
Have a blessed day/weekend. debra |
A few years ago,you could buy quilt racks at festivals and markets and they were everywhere. Last year I couldn't hardly find a wall quilt rack anywhere. I finally went to the Amish area and they have some very nice quality ones.So I bought one for my family room, and this year my dh bought one for my dining room for my bd. I have 2 upstairs and 2 free standing ones and a nice oak ladder (from the Amish). And to think I didn't have many quilts :)
I do like the idea of a laundry rack, and garment rack for a quick display even. Gee, I may need a bigger house!

I make all sorts of wooden racks for quilts.
I have one my husband made that is a wall rack. I have two that I found at good will and one from a thrift shop.
to "ILOVEMYDOGS"......can you send the pic of your quilt rack to me so I can try to have one made like it? my e-mail is . Thanks a bunch. This one holds many and doesn't take up too much space. I have one that a friend made that is about 3 ft wide but leans against the wall. I really like the stability of yours.
I do not have a floor rack. But I use unusual wall hangers for my quilts. ex. antique hoe, antique gun.
