Quilt with removable parts

Looking for ya’lls insight on an idea. I’ve had several different ideas in my brain for quilts that have removable/swappable pieces on the top. One is a Christmas quilt that would have stockings on it, which could be removed and used used as actual stockings, the other is a bit of a novelty quilt that would I have sewn/stuffed 3D things attached, which could be removed for washing or comfort, or reorganized on the top to mix it up.

in either case, what would you use at the attachment hardware? I am between snaps (plastic or metal? grommet or sew on?) or Velcro, but am open to other ideas as well. It doesn’t have to be baby/toddler safe, but bonus if it could be considered such.

If it is a wall hanging, buttons and buttonholes will work. If it is a bed quilt, I would use Velcro with the fuzzy side on the quilt so then the object would have the scratchy side.

Well if you wanted it to be baby/toddler safe, I'd go the velcro route.

I love your idea! Maybe use D-rings with lobster clasps like a removable strap on a purse.
