Quilt Restoration
Hi everybody. I'm Heidi and I live in Northern Illinois. I was wondering if any of you knew of someone who does quilt restoration. A woman that I work with has a quilt top that her grandmother made and is looking to have it repaired and finished so that she may display it. I wouldn't know how to go about this task. Any suggestions?
Thanks Heidi |
See if you can't 1)talk to someone in a quilt guild 2) go to LQS (local quilt shop) That's a couple places to start. If there's a spring quilt show nearby ask around there.

Go to the link below of American Quilters Society registered appraisers. They can best direct how and if a quilt should be restored.

Besure before she hands over the quilt to anyone that she views their work/many samples

She might want to get it appraised and insured before she has it restored and then again after.

I think she first needs to determine if the restoration is to be a "financial investment" or a "sentimental journey". That will dictate how she wants to approach the restoration and also figure into determining the amount she is willing to spend.
