Quilt shop recommendations in Seattle area
 

I'm visiting Seattle (used to live there ~20yrs ago now) in a couple weeks, and would love some quilt shop recommendations for the Seattle/Renton/Mercer and/or Whidbey Island area. I know I'd like to check out Pacific Fabrics in SoDo just out of curiosity, but any others I should check out? Thanks in advance!

Well, we are not the hot bed of quilting we once were. Pacific Fabrics is shutting down to two stores, but SoDo and Bremerton will remain. edited comment: SoDo store used to be part of my cheap tours of Seattle, but they reduced their flat folds and started selling for the same price as in the regular stores. At least Costco still has cheap hot dogs!

From rumors, we almost lost Gossypium in Issaquah but it seems to still be there.

I recently went down to Running Stitches in Kent for the first time. It was my first time in a quilt shop in at least a year and I was confronted with many things I wanted!

There is a place opening again in Renton soon (Pieces has been gone for many years), but it doesn't sound exactly like a fabric store.

Haven't been down that way in a couple of years but Carriage Country in Des Moines is still open.

Probably not what you have in mind at all, but Hobby Lobby has come to the area and there is one very close to Gossypium, they are maybe 8 blocks apart.

Final Thought -- we have a non-quilting fabric store in Renton that is awesome for fancy stuff, evening wear, costuming, etc. They used to be up here in the Highlands but (long story) have moved to down by the Airport. Well worth the trip if you need trims or just want to play with fancy stuff. Much of it is imported directly from other parts of the world -- do a sniff test, it is my personal issue that moth ball smell never dissipates enough for me.

If you have time head north and visit Quilting Mayhem in Snohomish, you won't be disappointed.

My daughter lives in Stanwood - one hour north of Seattle. Great quilt shop - Cotton Pickens. That is always a must stop each time I visit her! Great selection of fabrics and I love her patterns. Lots of samples!

Ben Franklin in Redmond and Monroe are worth looking at if you are nearby. Quilt shop level fabrics and each of them is an independent franchise and so they will have different things.

Husband and I drove cross country this summer from NY to Seattle. We took Route 2 most of the way home and there is a great little shop called Levonworth Quilting in WA. This may not be in the direction you would be going but for anyone headed that way, it is so worth the stop.

I visited Seattle this summer and enjoyed visiting Undercover Quilts and Fabrics. It is very close to Pike's Place Market.

In addition to the recommendations you get here, you may want to see what google can turn up - using things like "Seattle Quilt Shops" is how I found the above shop, and there were others that looked like good possibilities.

A must stop shop is Gathering Fabric, in Woodinville, my favorite shop, always inspiring! Lovely people who are always helpful! If you are in Marysville, Aunt Mary's is a great shop. The owner does wonderful applique. Enjoy your trip!
