DH and I will be in the Chicago area at the end of May, so I was hoping you all could help me locate a couple "must see" quilt shops in the area. Actually we will be staying in Lisle, IL. Any suggestions would be appreciated. And, if you know the area, then what else is there to see and do? Thanks in advance. (Any members close that want to meet for a quick cup of coffee - or in my case tea?)

Fabrics 2Etc in Bensenville (closest?), A Touch of Amish in Barrington, Quilter's Destination* in Arlington Heights, Quilter's Heaven in Northbrook. All good, but I haven't been to Barrington in ages. Linda Zs Sewing Center in Arlington Heights is a large multi-brand sewing machine dealer with ever-expanding fabric, thread, and notions.

Ooo, and to see, Morton Arboretum is in Lisle, if you like trees, walks. Brookfield Zoo. I work nights and sleep days (nurse) and my brother is visiting the end of May (I do pray!), so I might not be available, but PM me and we could try! Tons of museums in Chicago.

You will be very very close to a great shop , Pieceful Hearts fabric they are in Lisle on Maple Ave..
If you like batiks you must go to Quilt fabric.com its about a 10 -15 minute drive ( depending on traffic)from Lisle staight down 75th street to Rt 83 its on the corner. They have one of the most extensive collection of batiks of any shop I have seen. Many of my family ( out of town) make this a must when they visit. Those are the two closest to you in Lisle. ( I live a suburb over from Lisle) Some of my family will be visiting in a few weeks , they are comimg for the Frank L. Wright architecture walk (Oakpark) , this is a once a year event when some privately own FLW homes are open for public tours. It is quite the event on May 21st. |
Don't remember the name, but address is 2723 W Maple, Lisle. Search Western IL Shop Hop and you will find 7 stores. Have Fun!
