I lived in Vegas in the late 70's & 80's... ther were only a couple quilt shops ther at that time, both on the east end of 'town'...because it was small then.... Maryland Pkwy & Tropicana was one I remember... You'd have to check the internet for sure.... As far as tings to do not related to gambling.. They have a nice but small ski area north of the city on hwy 95 called Lee Canyon; hiking in Red Rocks Canyon, the Hoover dam is a nice tour, but that area is under construction at this time, so traffic is a BEAR! Bonnie Springs , west of town is interesting, like a old west town.... Ocean Spray has a manufactoring plant in Henderson, that's south on the boulder hwy; you can take the tour for free. Ethel M candies has a plant, and gardens ( desert) on the SE end, they have a fee tour also, and they offer (1) free sample at the end, yum. I personally wouldn't bother with Lake Mead up close anyway, it's man made, smelly, and dirty, although it's pretty from afar... If you want to take a little drive, I'd spend the day in Lake Havasu, they have the original London Bridge, it's a little touristy, but, it'll be warmer than Vegas, there's swimming, some shopping, full time residents are mostly retirees... If you go around Spring break, it'll be PACKED with partyers. Hope that helps. Have a great trip!

DD lives there now. She talks of Helen's, Hancocks, Joanns and another one. I'll get some info and PM you with it.

Oh my goodness...you have to go to Nancy's Quilt Shop, Fabric Boutique and Quiltique. All three are great! Lots of beautiful fabric and nice people. Quiltique is in Henderson the other 2 are in Vegas but spread out a little bit. Nancy's is on the north side of town and Fabric Boutique is kind of in the middle. Now if you want regular shopping there are 3 malls and 3 or 4 outlet malls! We left a year ago...can you tell I miss it??? We lived there almost 4 years. If you love the outdoors you need to go to Redrock Canyon. You can hike or just drive through. It is beautiful. There's also Mt. Charleston which is north of Vegas. Lots of hiking and trails there. Then of course there's all the Vegas stuff but we didn't do that stuff too much. We spent a lot of time in our Jeep riding the trails...PM me if you have any questions. Have fun!

You should definitely go to Hoover Dam 30 minutes from Las Vegas, it is beautiful and they are now building a suspension bridge that is unbelievable. Red Rock is also less than 30 minutes and beautiful, you might even see wild donkeys, we found it is best to go early morning or early evening. Ethel Ms is great too.

We just got back last weekend. But I actually have not been to the quilt shops there. In fact had planned on going this last trip, I hear there are some great ones, I can give you the list, that I have. I love to shoot craps so spent the three days in the casinos as usual. My 3 hobbies Quilting, Reading and shooting Craps. Good thing we don't live in Vegas and are 4.5 hours away.

Have fun, let me know how the Quilt Shops are, we will be going back in May.
Here is the list I have from their shop hop.

Fabric Boutique - 4465 W Charleston Blvd.
Fiddlesticks - 1229 Arizona St, Boulder City (you go through Boulder City on your way to Hoover Dam, cute little town.
Nancy's Quilt Shop 3290 N Buffalo Drive, Las Vegas
Quiltique 213 N. Stephanie St. Henderson, NV (basically Las Vegas)

I've been to three on Shaverg's list. The one in Boulder City is on the small side, but so cute and homey. Lots of great stuff.
Quiltique is huge and I swear they have it all. It is also a Bernina dealer so there is that as well. If it is new, they probably have it.
Fabric Boutique is also pretty big and they have gorgeous stuff too. I felt like a butterfly flitting from quilt to quilt. And a whole huge wall of patterns. Paradise, simply paradise.
I planned to go to Nancy's tomorrow, but have other stuff I have to do. Grrr.
There is another one that is brand new. I have not been there ....yet. It's called the Christmas Goose and has a website. It should be easy to find, right off the 215.
They also do a Quilt Shop Hop in Vegas. Sounds like it would be fun. And cost a lot of money. It comes up if you search for Las Vegas Quilt shops. I think they pick you up right a your hotel. But I would have to do more then look and that would get me in big trouble.

Oh my goodness WOW doesn't begin to describe this store, I really did feel like a kid in a candy store...HUGE selection and the staff is so friendly w/o being over bearing. Even my ordering on line this morning was super easy and I recieved a personal e-mail back within the hr of placing my order.
A couple ladies from this board recommended i go and so glad I did.
