Quilt Show Entry

3 Attachment(s)
After quilting for 10 years, I finally decided to enter a quilt in an upcoming show. It is the Anita's Arrowhead pattern done in 30's fabric.

I decided to do a scalloped bias binding. My question is about the binding and where it "V's. Do I need to do a blind stitch on the front and back on each V? Is is something the judges grade on? Also I was thinking about adding one applique flower with vine and some leaves to each corner. Do you think this would look good or ge an overkill?

Thanks for any advise.

Very nice job. Would think you should win something with that entry. Good luck.

I can't help you with the binding question. I like the idea of the appliqued flower, vine and leaves. I really like the example in the photo. When I looked at it the first time, I thought it was a flower made out of hexies. Great looking quilt and quilting.

I know judges check if the corners are sewn on quilt bindings so they might check the V's as well. Lovely quilt and should you add applique? Quilts are judged in categories usually so all the pieced go in one, all the applique go in another and there are usually fewer in the mixed category.
Can you invisible hand stitch the appliqués since it is already quilted?

Yes I am planning on invisible hand stitching the appliques

Gorgeous! I love the traditional look.

I don't know what the judges would be looking for on the binding, but I probably would have done the blind stitch at the Vs anyway when I was hand stitching the binding.

As for the additional appliqué, I think your idea would be lovely and appropriate for the era you are depicting so beautifully.

IMHO I do not think the applique does anything for the quilt...it is great without it!

This is my thought exactly. A beautiful quilt. It should come home a winner!

I think the applique finishes the quilt since you're just doing the corner with vine and leaves.
