I took lots of pictures of quilts in Houston..do I need to get permission from the artist to put them on here. For your viewing.

that would be wonderfully courteous of you. i'm sure the artists would be impressed and grateful that you asked them first. :-)

most of us take and post photos from quilt shows without giving that question any thought. we forget all about it in our excitement.

10 Gold Stars for you!

Soooooo, how would you do that?
Is the artist normally standing at the quilt?
With so many people there would the artist normally be able to speak with you?
I read that people were not permitted to take photos of 'some' of the quilts.
I would have thought if photo's were allowed it would be up to the person who took the photo what they were going to do with the photo.
What are the rules?

I don't think you need to ask permission, but telling who made the quilt is the polite thing to do.

they expect you to post them..but they do expect credit. or a link to their website if they have one.

and my loving husband's comment when I told him I wished I could have gone to the Houston Show...."why didn't you say something..we would have gone." Teach ME not to share that stuff with him! =)

At AQS quilt shows you are allowed to take pictures of all the quilts but you cannot post them anywhere online or even share them with others and I guess you can't show anyone your pictures as extreme as rules are getting these days. But I have seen pictures of AQS quilts on photobucket and flicker and posted in blogs and they weren't told to take them off. I think Houston is different then AQS shows, much more quilter friendly.

i believe most people who posts pictures taken at shows do not intend to violate any show rules or laws. they just get excited and want to share what they saw. it must be one of the most universally ignored set of rules on the planet.

i also think it's absolutely fabulous that Carolyn was thoughtful and caring enough to ask the question first.

not slow. just busy with other things, too.

most of the top prize winners are professionals who work at quilting full-time. it isn't their hobby and they don't have to squeeze it in between a bazillion other responsibilities.

part of my envies them. part is glad i don't have to worry about whether or not that would make it less fun. :-)
