Our local quilting group is having a quilt show in June and we want to make some quilt stands to display the quilts. Does anyone have a pattern or idea on how to make these. We will need to hang about 100 quilts. We do not have a lot of money to work with so can't afford to buy the fancy ones.

WE have used long conduit pipes in the past using step ladders. Our local hardware store donated them for the day. If you do this be sure and cover the pipe with sheets or blankets as it keeps the finish off of the quilts. Worked slick for us.

We have some that were made from PVC (the thick stuff, I think it's 3" diameter). One of the DH's made wood bases for them, but I've also seen one guild use plastic buckets, insert a PVC pole, fill the bucket with ziplock bags that were filled with rocks or gravel to give it weight and stability. Attached is a picture of theirs. For ours, we use a 1x1 at the top (eye hooks on each end of the 1x1, bolt at the top of the pole) so we can chain them together, giving more stability. We have agreed with another local guild that we will share racks in the future, so that means neither guild will have to have so many. The big problem is storing them from year to year. The bigger guilds rent theirs.
