You could ask for 'house' quilts, rail fence, log cabin, courthouse steps, & other building types. Maybe get judged by the categoties. Call it the show that quilts built, one block at a time.?

You guys are doing great. we want to have the theme ready for next show. This year it is theme is " A journey Back in time". We made a Log Cabin for the raffle quilt.
We have a NQA judge and they aalways want it easy to judge the theme quilt. Last night at the meeting I made a few suggestions and I was shut down right away. So I knew you have great ideas that I can take to the meeting, without making a fool out of me. Thanks guys |
If this year is heritage .... then next year, something futuristic?
* Future Visions * Back to the Future * Everything Old is New Again (reworking the traditionals in new and different ways, or using untraditional fabrics, etc) |

In my opinion having managed the Hoffman Challenge for 11 yrs is to establish a theme or select a fabric and then give participants freedom to work within those peramiters. I believe too often there are too many rules attached to the challenge. That is why I suggested "Architerial Details" and then the detail the designer wants to focus on But Architerial Detail is the base subject. Then I can do windows, the gingerbread decorative elements on house, shingles or tile on the roof.
Now speaking from the judges side.......we need to be able to recognize the design intent of the quiltmaker. Therefore the rules need to be established to assure that. |

I do like the idea of Architerial Details as a theme, I will suggest it at next meeting. That has a wide range of ideas for the quilts. Thank you |
