So once again I am contemplating working on a "show quilt". I was wondering for those of you that already have competed, how complex does the design really need to be? I've seen alot of posts from shows with crazy complex quilts posted and I'm nowhere near that level

just do your best with any quilt. there are lots of catagories and they are not all artsy quilts. good judges look at workmanship, color choices etc. good luck, hope to see one of your quilts with a ribbon soon.

And pay very close attention to detail, even the smallest - if it's something you think they won't notice, they probably will. lol

Make a quilt you love. Then you're happy no matter what the judges say or don't say.

Yes, there are a lot of complex quilt designs out there, but there are also some simple ones. One of the winners at Paducah this year was a very simple Amish-inspired bar quilt, with wonderful machine quilting. You can't get any more basic or lovely than that!
