How do you find out about quilt shows in one's area? I always find out after they've come and gone.

Norah 03-06-2007 07:37 AM

Google quilt show 2007
Lots come up. If you have a specific one in mind, type in the name of the show or the town.

Debbie Murry 03-06-2007 07:39 AM

Thanks Nora. Boy you guys are great. Ask and you shall receive.

vicki reno 03-06-2007 07:41 AM

I just typed in the word quilt show and the area--like quilt show Hampton Virginia or quilt show Wilminton North Carolina. Usually the group sponsoring the show will have something up on line. The one here in raleigh this weekend, I found out about because the Capital ARea Quilters Guild had booth in Hampton. They were selling raffle tickets for their quilt.

mimisharon 03-06-2007 07:58 AM

Mimisharon is here!!! I'm taking a short break from taffeta and green so decided to check out what is going on.

Planning ahead to June, is it to early to plan. Not at all!! With the weddings and things going on this year.......I'll let everyone know they won't find me around anywhere but Wilmington on those days.

We'll have to meet somewhere wearing Quilting nametags before we go to the show, right??? lol lol

Debbie Murry 03-06-2007 08:16 AM

I had to google alot but I found it for the whole country. wwwnqaquilts.org/statechapters.asp Then find your state. Lots of info here.

Debbie Murry 03-06-2007 08:21 AM

The show is at Hoggard High School June 22-24 on Shipyard blvd. There's a Henry's restruant near by. They have great food. It's kinda far off so you guys remind me a few weeks before it's time. See you then.

vicki reno 03-06-2007 08:45 AM

Sounds wondeful! Just remember ear plugs cause when I start talking about quilts, you may get sick of hearig me and might need tape or ear plugs :!: :D :D

Just a small correction
http://www.nqaquilts.org/statechapters.asp

Also, there are a lot more shows than they list. It is a good reference anyway. Thanks, Debbie!! :-)

mimisharon 03-06-2007 02:02 PM

Come on out, Norah, you and Patrice can both stay with me and we'll drive the 50 minutes to Wilmington. OR, we can all stay at a place in Wilmigton and not have to drive, just walk around with cameras and talk quilting. Someone remind me to take my insulin and we'll be find. I can do my own share of quilt talk, so maybe we should all just leave the ear plugs home??????

Calendar is out and marked!! Woohoo!!! Quilters I talk to daily. Love it, love it! :D
Sharon

mimisharon 03-06-2007 02:02 PM

I don't know how the message got on here twice....

vicki reno 03-07-2007 04:48 AM

I am not always sure of myself when it come to quilting. I don't belong to a guild so I have no way of knowing whether I run off at the mouth too much about it. Thanks Mimi Sharon, I feel "normal" now. I guess I am always afraid I am going to bore someone to tears cause when Iget on the subject of quilts, LOOK OUT :!: :!: :!: :!: :D

patricej 03-07-2007 06:03 AM

I have no such doubts. I KNOW i bore people stiff no matter what I'm talking about because i rarely know when to shut up about anything.

so relax in the knowledge that there will always be at least on woman on earth who makes you look good. LOL

Regarding Wilmington ... i'll start another piggy bank. I vote we pile into a hotel room or two so it's a real "get away" for all of us.

vicki reno 03-07-2007 06:51 AM

You are not boring, funny and very smart, but not boring. I just don't know many people around here to "talk quilts" to. They are out there, but I have never gone looking for them. The long hours that I put in at work leave me little energy at night to go to guild meetings. I guess that sounds like a lame excuse, but lame or not, its the only one I have. I'd love to find a group that would meet on a Saturday afternoon. That I could do. But as far as the quilt show, I am sooooooo ready!!!!!!!!!!!!
We go on summer hrs next week at work, so I will finally have some much needed overtime!! :D :!: I'll be stuffing my piggy bank till then and we'll see what happens! Shop till I drop :!:

patricej 03-07-2007 10:17 AM

thank you for the compliments. :D

i went to one meeting of our local guild. all the ladies seemed very nice but i didn't have anything in common with them. i didn't feel i'd fit in well and haven't gone back.

one of the members has a store here in town and a long-arm business on the side. people gather at the store (not a quit shop) informally most tuesday evenings. that sounds more like my cup of tea. i just keep forgetting to go check it out! LOL

i figure i'm better off if my "in-person" friends aren't quilters. that way, they're always impressed by whatever i do 'cause they don't know the difference.

There is a great group in Burnsville NC wher our retirement house to be is.
Its held the 2nd Tues of every month but very seldom are we there during that time. I'll get to go next month as we are going up there for Easer. I think the name is the Mountain Piecemakers. I did win a beautiful basket quilt about 6 years ago, bought a raffle ticket/or tickets, don't know which. We usually go up there in October for some of the festivals and thats when I bought the raffle tickets. If ony in my lifetime, I ever create anythng that beautiful, I won't need to go to Heaven, will feel like I am already there. :D

azdesertrat 03-07-2007 01:00 PM

Any quilt shops in the area should have that information also, best way to advertise!

azdesertrat 03-07-2007 01:02 PM

patricej 03-07-2007 01:11 PM

There is a quilt show in Oshkosh, WI on Friday, March 16 and Saturday, March 17 at the locat Fox Valley Tech school. Then on April 14 it's off to Rosemont, IL for the quilt show there. I believe it runs Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. We go by bus on Saturday only. It is a long, fun filled day.

mimisharon 03-07-2007 05:27 PM

Don't give up hope Tim, we'll send the speed talkers that keep us awake to your room. That way you won't feel lonely! You'll be able to keep up with the conversation, right?

very simple. anybody who's keeping us awake gets sent down the hall to talk your ear off and keep you awake instead.
we get our beauty sleep.
you get to look like the "big man on campus" cruising the show and town with a crowd of gorgeous quilters.
a win-win all around, wouldn't ya say?

Here's the deal... I call it piling on. You send someone down because they talk too much, they bring their quilt and "pile it on"... the bed in my room. At the end of the weekend, you all have a lot of fond memories, I have all your beautiful quilts.

THAT's a win-win situation.

IS ANYONE GOING TO THE SHOW IN BATON ROUGE, LA.?]

vicki reno 03-08-2007 05:09 PM

Too far away for me, but my sister lives in Thibodaux. When is it and I'll let her know about it. I'm sure she'd be interested. It'd be nice if we could go together, but it won't happen this year. We are going to try to make the Houston show in '09 because that's when I will retire. Maybe get together for visits before then but a quilt show in '09 hopefully. Her daughter lives there and if she is still there then, we'll camp out in her spare bedroom.

THE SHOW IS IN BATON ROUGE MARCH 14,15, & 16th 2007

zyxquilts 03-08-2007 10:33 PM

Too bad it didn't work out with the quilt guild! I've been a member of my guild since it started in 1994, and am now on the board of the Southern California Council of Quilt Guilds. I also have been going to the same Adult Ed quilt class for, um, over 12 years now I think!! :-P Maybe something like that would work for you. Also one of my friends just found out about one of our local churches that has what I will call a quilt gathering every Saturday. I think you just bring whatever you want to work on & the room is open for several hours. Nice to have the big tables to work on!
Just like these message boards....keep asking & someone will come up with just the info you need!

vicki reno 03-09-2007 07:01 AM

I'll let my sister know. She may want to go up her to see it. Its not that far from her house, an hour and a half or it used to be when I was living there.
