I have a cousin in the hospital with phnomia and I was thinking about makeing her a quilt. I don't know what pattern to use. She is just a year old and is on a vent and very sick. Any ideas?

Thanks
Claudette

Sorry to hear about your cousin. I (like many on this board) have been making quilts for kids and Downy's website has the patterns on there. They are easy, small for a child and can be as bright and colorful as you want. I'd recommend you use soft fabric so it's cuddly. Hope this helps.

I'm sorry to here about your cousin. My niece had pneumonia when she was about 7 months old and luckily came out okay. I don't know the name of a pattern but I think a quick quilt would be to take a 2 or three different color fabrics cut into several squares and sew them together and add some borders. I hope she does better and is out of the hospital soon.

Hoping for a speedy recovery {{{{{{{{{{HUGS}}}}}}}}
What about just a basic 9 patch or a disappearing nine patch. Do you have a lot of different fabrics maybe an I Spy quilt ?

Iluv2quilt 12-29-2009 03:47 AM

The quickest quilt I've ever made was a baby quilt using the "Warm Wishes" pattern. Search for it online, the pattern is simple. Also, a disappearing 9 patch is easy and quick too.

I hope your little cousin gets better real soon.

Hugs and kisses and I pray she is home soon with her loved ones.

anyone interested in the helping make the quilts, it is also w/downey...go to: www.quiltsforkids.org and check it out..great cause and idea:)So is this idea for making a quilt for this sick little one;)

Elisabrat 12-29-2009 05:45 AM

something very quick, that can be washed a ton as in the hospital she will need it washed daily.. something cuddly.. I saw the cuttest thing at Target the other day super soft baby blanket fabric that had a bear or rabbit etc head and was sewn under that head (like a ghost might be made?) and the rest of the blankie hung down. so it could be cuddled.. I thought shoot if I had a little one I would give them that.. something to hug, chew on (lol) .. a friend anda blanket

Bevanger 12-29-2009 05:52 AM

ahhh sorry about your cousen. i sure hope she recovers fast

littlehud 12-29-2009 08:43 AM

Hope she gets better soon. I would use a nine patch.

Bluphrog 12-29-2009 09:22 AM

Snowball blocks are easy and fast to make up, too. And I'd back it with Minkie. Expensive, I know, but for a little one, especially in the hospital, I'd spend the extra. I backed my granddaughter's first quilt with Minkie, and at 19 mos. she loves it.

Jim's Gem 12-29-2009 10:28 AM

I hope she gets well really soon!!

amma 12-29-2009 10:55 AM

I think any bright and cheery fabric would be great, and a simple 4 patch, snowball, D9P, or other pattern would be awesome!!! I hope that she is back home soon :D:D:D

I would love to offer your cousin a quilt from our quilt ministry. If you are interested you can PM me.

That is what our ministry is all about ~ sending a "touch" of comfort from a quilt made by loving and caring women to give a little hope to a child that is sick or less blessed.

You and the family are in my prayers
Dar/S.C.

I LOVE GINGERBREAD themes! Why not use the idea of your online ID and make her a Gingerbread applique quilt?

plenty warm and cuddly. Those hospitals are cold! Best
to you,too.

I am so sorry about your little cousin. Please know you and her are in my prayers. I hope she gets well soon!

AkAngel 12-31-2009 02:41 PM

Well the ones I was thinking of have already been mentioned I think. I love the warm wishes it is quick and easy and you can use a novelty fabric for the center, how about making it into an I Spy type quilt. The double nine patch is one I'm really wanting to do everyone says its so quick also.
The other one I was thinking of is Hugs and Kisses.
Hope she is doing better,
Muriel

The fastest and one I use often - especially for us - if you have a big enough piece of beautiful fabric - put a border or two on it - cut a backing to fit it and stipple quilt it, put a binding on it and you will be done in a few days. I hope the baby gets well real soon !!!
