Quilt Soap

Do you use QuiltSoap, Dawn or dish detergent, Retayne, or laundry detergent when prewashing your fabrics? Thank you for your insight

I use laundry detergent.

I use my regular laundry detergent. I try to use my normal washing conditions, warm wash, cold rinse, although no fabric softener for prewashing.

i use my regular unscented laundry detergent

Regular laundry detergent, wash cycle and dryer setting because that is how it will be treated in the future.

Thank you. So does that mean that the Retayne or QuiltSoap is not as popular?

I bought a gallon of that quilt soap that at the farm supply store was 1/4 the price. I think they wash horses with it. It was about $10 a gallon and you only use a teaspoon.

It might be called Orvis paste.

The animal soap you are referring to is ..... Orvus!
It is actually classed as a detergent, despite the "soap" name.

I have used it a lot for washing dairy cattle for shows, but never for quilts.

You need to make sure that you get it fully rinsed out of your quilt (and off the animal:)).
If not, it can stay in the quilt ......
and could attract dirt to the quilt, and ultimately could have an overall detrimental effect.
If by chance you have hard water ... it can be even harder to get it rinsed out of the quilt.

For some people (and animals) with sensitive skin, it can be very harsh on your skin.
For some there could be an allergic reaction.

I'm not saying to not use it .... but beware of some of the negatives.
I know many swear by it!

They sell it in the quilt store under the name Quilt Soap.
