Hi everyone,

I am making quilts for my boys for Christmas. They are 12 and 15, so I am making them twin size. I am going to also do one for my son in law, because he has made the comment that all of their quilts for the bed are feminine. My question, should I make it big enough for their bed (queen), or should I make it more of a throw. I can't ask my daughter too many questions, but I think they use them in their bedroom more than in the living room. I need to make it quite long because he is 6'4" - 6'6" and so I want it to be long enough.

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Well, if you want to make it personal, I would make a napping blanket just for him, but wider than a twin.

Make a throw. The one thing that tall people can NOT buy is a throw that long enough. And make it at least 7 1/2 feet long. I always make throws for DD's teachers for Christmas. Last year her teacher was a 6' tall woman. I made a 7 1/2' throw and she was tickled to death!! She said it was the first time in her life that she could comfortably cover up on her couch.

My sons love their throws but I should have made them longer. Live and learn!

I agree, I make them a foot or more longer, than they are tall.
More masculine colors and pattern, I bet it will become his favorite couch throw :D:D:D

My son loves to have a throw in the living room that is long enough for him and doesn't look prissy. Go for the throw.

Long throw... Just in man colors. :)

For one man I know, I used an appliqued boxer shorts pattern of Superman fabric. He loved it and that was as masculine as I could come up with.

I would make it queen sized as he specifically mentioned the bed. It will be more work, but I am sure he will appreciate it. How about a rich tan and brown Log Cabin like the one I made recently?
