Quilt Storage

How are people storing their finished quilts that they might not be selling or giving away right away? I saw something somewhere that showed them being rolled up on a covered pool noodle! I have them folded in giant Ziploc for now. Is folding them okay?

Storing in sealed plastic can damage a quilt if moisture is sealed with it. Folding isn't bad if you take it out regularly and fold it in another direction. I store mine with all my other bed linen. Used to re-use the bags I got when I bought bed spreads or mattress pads - but didn't like the smell. Some people make a "pillow case" to store it in with a bit of the fabric on the edge so they know which quilt is inside.

I would reforl on different lines occasionally. Use only acid free paper. Hugs

Many of my quilts I hang on a quilt rack - I rotate the quilts on my bed every 3 -4 months. Nothing else stays around long enough for me to worry about storing them!

I use the few I've kept regularly, the rest have all been gifted. My mom, on the other hand, does store hers. I know http://www.keepsakequilting.com/default.aspx has boxes for sale, but kind of pricey. You could just wrap in acid free paper and crumple a few pieces to put into the folds so they're more rounded?

I store mine in clean cotton pillow cases. I re-fold occasionally.

Probably has something to do with spring cleaning.
