If you quilt a top to a piece of fleece that is both batt and backing and bind the edges, are you going to let someone else decide whether or not it's a quilt? You know, it wasn't too long ago that the "experts" determined that it wasn't a "real" quilt if it wasn't hand quilted. Pfffftttt.... who cares? ;) There is baby quilt, lap quilt, coverlet, double, queen, king. That is in my vocabulary of quilting. Edie |

Edie (Edith) So from one Edie to another... hi there! |
Beautiful!

Love your lanyard! Did you use a pattern? Would like to do one of those! Please???

I had to laugh about your comment about the word "coverlet". I use that term all the time because I like to make thin quilts to use as coverlets for my beds for summer use. I think it's a very descriptive word but then maybe I'm a bit old fashioned. But several of my coverlets are very modern in design.

I don't care if you call it a coverlet or a quilt, that Cathedral Window is spectacular. It must have taken years to make. I love it.

Personally I live to annoy the quilt police. Who made them such anyway. If all the deceased quilters could come out of there graves and annoy these so called quilt police I'll bet they would change there tune pretty quick.

Cathredal windows is know as a summer quilt because as stated previously it has no batting. I call them beautiful.

Definitions/words and how they are used change over time.
So are we,quilters, not changing??? |
For those wondering about the little lanyard, The blocks are paper-pieced, and the finished size of the blocks is 3/4". I trimmed the seam allowances down to 1/8" before putting on the binding. (I glued it down, then stitched it later.) I took a class to make it, and have a call in to the teacher to see if she'd like to share the pattern.

If it is made by a quilter, it IS a quilt!

A rose by any other name would smell just as sweet. People who feel they must justify their existance attach meaning to things and hope the world will hang on their words. Look a Pluto, once a planet and now demoted. Why? The astronamers say they have the right to do it and ask no one's permission.
The famous F&P magazine says a tied quilt isn't a qiult but a comforter. God bless whoever wrote that. If you want to consider your work a quilt, do so and stand firm against any organization who says different! Your work from what I see is marvelous, and looks are though you put much love into a lot of work. Hugs and good fortune. |

The cathedral window quilt is beautiful and I was just reading the directions for that the other day and I still can't quite figure out how it is done. The lanyard is really something else! How in the world did you manage to get the blocks so perfect? The quilt police certainly could not give you a ticket on that one. It is outstanding!!
