Which quilt?
 

It's time to start my batik quilt. I originally was going to do a stained glass, then decided on a circle quilt (Drunkard's Path type blocks). I grabbed a handful of batiks and saw both pictures in the tote. I simply can't decide. Any suggestions other than to make one curved block and see how it goes. I'm working from a wheelchair so everything is a little more difficult. I'm looking for something the right height to cut on.

Which would you like for a 40 year old male?

I think either of those patterns would be good for a male. The color choices make a quilt seem for a male or female to me.

You may want to try a Hunter's Star.

I agree. Pattern is not as important as the fabric chosen are. Have you sewn a curved seam before? That might be the deal breaker for the Drunkard Path pattern.

I haven't sewn a curved seam in quilting, but I have put in hundreds of set in sleeves. I have one block cut out so I can see how labor intensive it is before I cut a lot. Right now I'm leaning toward the circle quilt as the person is interested in Asian culture and it seems more suitable.

I think either pattern would be great. I have made multiple drunkards path quilts and most all for males. This pattern looks stunning with batiks. I agree, colors determine if it is a male or female quilt more then the pattern. Take the pattern you enjoy working on. For me it would actually be the drunkards path but it is because some one showed me how to do the blocks without pinning and just holding it in an angle when sewing.

If you have done set in sleeves, curved seams like the Drunkard's Path unit, should be easy for you.

Same idea - a convex part being fitted to a concave part.

I made my first block after I returned from a doctor app't. The cutting was slow and I had to be very careful to use the correct lines, but the sewing was easy and quick. So I guess the circle quilt wins. Just need to perfect a 1/4" seam with the curve. It will come on the next block. I can get the quarter circle and the background piece from one 10" square.
I'll cut a bunch, then mix them and as stitch them.
