I think they don't want personal information on a quilt for which you don't know the recipient. It's really for your protection.

Yes, sad as it is, Bennie nailed it.

From my very first quilting class I was told about the importance of labeling my quilts, which I have tried to do. At first I thought "Well, Ill remember when i made this quilt", sort of like not writing down our baby's milestone events, after time we forget even the important things. I do my best to label all my quilts so some day there may be someone looking at one of my quilts and saying "Oh yes, Marge made this quilt", especially the family reunion quilts that I've made. I don't want to be forgotten for my accomplishments.

Yes MargeD you don't want to be the one who put all that work into a beautiful bed size applique basket quilt that no one knows you made!

I agree with labeling quilts and providing enough information that will enable the quilter to be identified years later - I have 15 or so quilts made by, we think, my great grandmother, but none have labels. If I know who the quilt is going to before I quilt it, I incorporate the label into the backing of my quilt so it is quilted into the quilt and to remove it would destroy the quilt. I could do the label even without a recipient's name as part of the backing and add a second label with a recipient's name if I wanted to...just thought of that, duh!!!
