For my twin granddaughters, I made quilts with the same pattern (alternating plain squares with appliqué squares), but the plain squares were out of similar fabrics from the same fabric line, just slightly different patterns. The appliqué was from scraps - cute little birds. I wish I knew where the pictures are! We already knew the twins were fraternal, and my son and DIL didn't want things matchy-matchy.

I always thought if I ever needed to make quilts for twins or siblings, I'd probably do something like this.

I've done
same fabric, different patterns
same fabric, same pattern, but different placement (Yellow Brick Road, with additional fabrics, so they are kind of scrappy)
sampler quilts, with different blocks in each quilt, and with different color solid blocks between the sampler blocks (pink in one quilt, purple in the other) These were fun to make.
same pattern, different fabrics -- this is my favorite combination, but probably because I really liked the colors (one blue, one green, and the pattern.

So-anything goes.

When I made quilts for twin girls I used the Missouri Star pattern and reversed the colors on each.

Twins are two children with the same birth date. It is absolutely perfectly fine to make two different quilts. They may be two girls but they will be different. As a grandma of twins and mom of two girls close in age, the kiddos may appreciate later in life being recognized as wonderful siblings with the same birth date. You may want to ask the parents their perspective on doing things alike or blessing them as individuals. Enjoy the "twofers".

I used the same pattern and almost the same fabric. The skinny blue sashing is different and the binding is scrappy but a little different

I made quilts for brothers - not twins - and I used the same fabric but different patterns.

I didn't like doing it this way as much because I like one pattern better than the other - and I am afraid one of the boys will feel the same way. (who am I kidding - will little boys even notice ha ha)

I have made 3 twin size quilts that when the last two are finished, I will be sending to my sister's great-grand daughter. Before she passed away, my sister asked me to help her make a quilt for her first GGD, just a simple quilt of squares, but it had to be a twin. Two years after she passed away, I was able to make the first one, however, it was very difficult for me emotionally, as I really missed my big sister, who was also my best friend. Then Marissa had two more girls, and just recently she had a boy. Two twin quilts are made, but yet to be quilted; the first one has been quilted. Now with her little boy, I'm intending to make a Disappearing nine patch quilt for her son Beau. It hasn't been easy as I have had a series of health problems, and I estimate that I have spent two years in the hospital, three surgeries and weeks in rehab, so I'm behind; but I hope to finish those quilts this year if the Good Lord is willing. I plan to use different pinks on the backings on the two girl quilts and hope to have enough fabric for the backing of the D9patch of a boy print of planes, trains and automobiles. Wish me luck, as I also have plans to make my son and DDIL a twin size Dresden Plate for their newly decorated bedroom. I try to sew/quilt every day, however, i have had serious problems with the arthritis in my back, rheumatoid arthritis, fibromyalgia, one shoulder replaced and another one to be replaced due to a second torn rotator cuff, but I hope to get my UFO's finished soon.

When my twin great grandchildren were born (a boy and a girl), the mother gave me the colors she wanted the quilts to be. For Audrey - it was lavender and gray, for Trey - it was Navy and gray, so I I made Audrey's with lavender, silver and added a bright green for a pop of color. well i only found one Sue quilt. I made another but a bit different color and binding different. then machine embroidered their names in the border. found another one!
