I've been asked to make two quilt wall hangings from a woman's wedding dress for her sons. I can't find enough information on the internet and I need ideas. Has anyone done a project like this? I've visited sites with photos but no directions. There is a lot of fabric to work with on the dress. I've contemplated a dresden plate for one of the quilts. I am attaching photos with some of the details. The edge scallops are 9 inches on the bottom and 6 inches on the back ones that go down both sides from top to bottom. I have never done a project like this but if I can get an idea in my mind, I know I can do it. Please send me your thoughts or any sites you come across.

It really has some beautiful details on it. While heirloom sewing isn't really my thing I wonder if some of the cut away and lace insert techniques could be used to showcase the lovely details.

The biggest problem you're going to have is ironing. If it's a poly you'll need steam to make the seams crease and most irons won't steam on the poly setting. It won't be nearly the problem if it's silk.

Hi from Texas! Did you check out the website quiltsbycindy.com? She has some great pics on there of quilts she makes from wedding gowns...also, there are some ideas if you google crazy quilts, and brazilian embroidery....a lot of the fabrics used with both of those can be satins, and use lace, beading, etc...good luck to you...
