I invested in the 1/4" foot when I bought a new Pfaff this summer and couldn't be more pleased. I'm fairly new to this quilting "thing" and need all the help I can find!

I guess I am fortunate that my machine has a 'scant' 1/4" needle setting that is perfect with it's standard foot. I've tried a foot with the rail/skeg and had horrible results. Returned it for a full refund.

I use the zig zag foot that came with my PC420 and just move my needle till it I get a 1/4" seam when aligning the fabric with the right side of the foot. Both the 1/4" feet that Brother says are compatible with my machine cause the same problems Geri B noted for her BL (Baby Lock?). I find that I get a very accurate 1/4" seam on the PC420 just by using an index card to determine where to position my needle in relation to the rt. edge of the zig zag foot. I also try to use 50 wt. thread and a 75/11 needle which helps reduce bulk in the seams when they're pressed to the side. I have found that sometimes for blocks (like star blocks) where you have to be super-accurate with your piecing to get nice points I have to do some fine-tuning with either fabric positioning or needle placement, but for most piecing my zig zag foot works fine.

Can't live without it!

I never had one until I bought a new machine last year. My 1/4" seams were all fine before so a special foot isn't necessary, but it has added more convenience than I thought it would.

Would you mind posting a picture of it? I have a Pfaff Performance 5 and I'm not crazy about the 1/4" foot. Maybe you have a better one.

I just adjust the needle and use the edge of my regular foot

I also ripped the rail off my 1/4" foot before it would sew 1/4" seam. Now I keep it on my Janome all the time and have blue painters tape on my machine bed to verify the 1/4" SA. It finally does what it was designed to do.

I never used one with my old machine, but when I got my new machine it came with one and I have never gone back. It make it a million times easier and it works like a dream. When I didn't have one I had a hard time keeping the seam at the 1/4 inch when I sewed but I don't really have the problem now.
