Quilt as You go sucess
I have never been sucessfull with quilting on my home machine , and as I live in the UK sending a quilt out is well nigh impossible due to the prices , sooooo I have been trying a squillion ways to learn how to quilt as you go .I have come across this video on you tube by Lindee G , its the answer to my prayers , it shows a rather gorgeous baby quilt which is embroidered , but after that bit it shows the easiest (well to me anyway):)way of QAYG, I tried it on orphan blocks of all different sizes and it works every time , and best of all , no fiddling about folding and cutting and hand sewing (yak)
I hope this might interest some who are thinking of using this method. Regards Kathryn |
sounds great. i'm doing a few blocks now myself and will make it into a wall hanging. One day i'll do a large quilt.

Do you have a link to the video?
|
I've just done a search and can't find it either. I would be very interested too.

I would post a direct link if I knew how but I found it by going to Google and typing in.....It's a Girl Fast Quilt As You Go Embroidered Quilt and the you tube listing came up. It does look simple and the quilt is very cute.

I just finished a quilt as you go quilt (pictures in the picture section- thread says something about Shadow Trapunto).
I didn't necessarily find it any easier to do than a regular quilt- putting it all together was difficult, it just moved the difficulty (the wadding of the quilt to get it thruogh the machine) to another step. It is a tool I'll keep in my arsenal, but it won't solve all problems for me. Only if I want that look. |

Thanks Gladys,I will definately try that method.

I found this tutorial very helpful. http://maureencracknellhandmade.blog...-tutorial.html She quilts the top and batting squares, sews them together then adds the backing with stitch in the ditch to hold the layers together.
|
Sorry about not posting the link , my techie knowledge does not venture that far :)but I hope it benefits someone :)

Great video and ideas. Thanks for posting it.

Wow. Lindee G makes it look so easy. I'm going to give this a try. Thank you so much for sharing.

I used QAYG to make a quilt for a Joann's employee who was going into the Air Force. It worked perfectly. I will admit that I don't like it for every type of quilt since you don't always want those borders, but you can also play around with using long pieced strips instead of blocks for a different look, too.

You might want to read through this thread here on the board. http://www.quiltingboard.com/quiltin...e-t196192.html. Also Ditter has a tutorial here on the board for doing the QAYG.

This the tutorial by Ditter43 for her string quilt. I hope these links help. Happy quilting |
Thanks for all the information gals.....once I finish up my current projects a QAYG project is next on my list! :)

This is the one I use http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v7_lwOfZWM8

I have made a couple of memory quilts for the grands using QAYG....loved it, especially when it came time to quilt!!! Am now doing a CA King bedspread using this technique...only way I can quilt big projects on my machine...

Thanks! I don't have an embroidery machine, but the assembly method looks do-able and the example of backing fabric that hides problems is worth noting. I have enough 10-minute blocks for a large quilt among my UFOs, and I was planning to use sashing for it in any case, so that may be my experiment with this method.

Hi daisylil,
Someone from UK . I agree sending out to Laq. I'm possible not only price but finding one who can do it very quickly. One near to mehas at least 6 month wait.this is similar to the quilt as you go I do. I find it so much easier to quilt small sections at a time. I spent hours, days watching the videos on utube early last year seeing so many different ways and finally sorting my own. Ate you going to Malvern in May? I am going to Uttoxeter in spring as I live 10 minutes away you are too far for a small show. If you are visiting Alton Towers make it same time as Uttoxeter show. We also. Have a small quilt shop in the area to visit. PM me please for more info. |
