quilt as you go
I am looking for a book where you quilt the blocks as you go, then add binding and quilt the binding and the quilt is done. The books I have found just sew together the blocks with no binding. Help!

Why would you quilt the binding? Am I missing something?

Maybe you mean sashing instead of binding? I would recommend "Machine Quilting in Sections" by Marti Michell. She covers the sashing technique along with several others.

I think what you are looking for is sometimes called quilt as you go with joining strips—you attach narrow strips front and back and make kind of a box pattern. But you still need binding on the other edges of the quilt. Anyway, try looking inside this book and see if it’s what you want.

Georgia Bonesteel introduced Quilt as You Go. Her books are wonderful. They can be found on Ebay and in many libraries. She is a quilting legend not many newer quilters know of.

Use the links provided and google some more. This gives you the advantage to learn about the different QAYG methods, without cost. Soon, you will know all you want to know and then some! :) |
Sounds like a pot holder quilt which were popular during the Civil War.
|
Thanks to all who posted links and videos to learn qaygo methods.

Jera Brandvig also teaches QAYG. She has some tutorial videos on the Fat Quarter Shop website or You tube. Her fabric designs are also beautiful!
|
I do QAYG and have found Leah Day has great info and tutorials on her site Leahday.com. I also found good tutorials and information on theGourmetQuilter.com.
