I want to attempt this quilt as you go. I have read lots of tutorials on this, my question is this..do I have to put a sashing between the blocks? With the blocks and border I wasn't going to use on. I know this might be a dumb question..but I didn't know the answer...LOL

Here is one that I did like you are talking about. This is the only quilt that I have done like this.

I have the same question and would love to see a picture of a finished QAYG.

BettyB would you do it again?

I am thinking about doing one again. I did this one in 1992 or 1993. At that time I did not know what I was doing (lol) and did not have any instructions except for the block pattern. I got started last night cutting up some rather large 9 patch blocks that I bought at a garage sale to make a D9P and I think I am going to machine quilt it as I go.

The only hand stitching on that quilt is where I blind stitched the lining blocks together

No, you don't have to use sashing for a quilt as you go quilt--at least not on the front. Depending on exactly what method or block you are working on, you might want to do it on the back to hide the seams. What block or design are you working on?

You don't have to put sashing unless you want it there.
Every quilt I have done has been 'quilt as you go'.

Let me see if I can find the picture of my fun and done quilt as you go. This way does have a sashing on the front.

Have done similar with a fan Quilt alternating the back colors so it ended up a checkerboard, seems like sashing was used, Hand stitched a blind hem to finish. May have to try again when I learn someones method, seems like would help with machine quilting, and not having to handle all the bulk at once. :)
Happy Quilting !!
