I'm looking for a cutting pattern to make quilted clergy stoles, and after hours of internet search, I have not tracked down an actual useable pattern.

Simplicity had a pattern (7950 I think) but it has since been discontinued.

Any of you out there that can help me?

I'm looking to create two stoles for our pastor who has been appointed to a new church starting in July and I would love to make these as farewell gift.

Thanks all!

How about using an existing robe/stole as a template?

There is a wonderful book now out of print but perhaps available on the internet. It is titled "Patchwork Pilgramidge" That is probably mispelled.
I have a pattern somewhere but would take me until next year to find it. However, wanted you to know about this book.

Could you borrow one from the Church and make your pattern?

I did that about 15yrs ago ... worked out great.

This is interesting reading about the subject.

I know RaNae Merrill did one in her spiral technique that was absolutely gorgeous. Send her an email, she is really responsive. I can't remember exactly, but her site is likely ranaemerrill.com

I can't seem to cut and past the address but I searched under "clergy stole patterns" and found a site that indicates patterns and instructions.

I know nothing about clergy stoles, but I do remember that RevPam helped someone out recently with patterns for alter scarves. Alter something anyway. Maybe she knows of a pattern.

I did this. It's basically a matter of getting the length right for the person's height. I didn't use any batting because I thought it would make them too bulky.

This sounds like a great topic! I will be watching. I don't think a pastor can have too many stoles. It's kinda like having too many pairs of unders!!

Try this one. It gives good instructions.

If you do use batting I suggest Thermore from Hobbs. It is a very thin batting used for quilted clothing.

Hi All,

Thank you for the suggestions. I ordering the "Patchwork Pilgrimage" book, it should arrive this week. I also ordered a really comprehensive book called "20 Simple and Elegant Vestment Patterns" by Rev. Cheryl L. Miner...I've just started reading, looks like it will also be a valuable resource.

If you go to Simplicity patterns they may have a section for discontinued patterns- I know McCalls does
I will be watching to see if you liked the books you ordered.

Thanks all!
