Is there such a thing as quilted helmet liners for our troops? And if so, does anyone know where to find a pattern? And where to send them when they are done? Thanks

I've never heard of quilted helmet liners, only knit ones. I would assume they have to be stretchy, right?

Hmmmm....maybe not quilted...just stitched with maybe three layers of stretchy knit? Be worth trying if we had a pattern and someone to try it on!

I would think they'd be way too HOT.

Although it can be hot during the day in some areas, those same areas can get quite cold at night.

I haven't heard of quilted helmet liners, sorry I can't help with that.

This is a quote requesting warm helmet liners...

"How would you like to use your knitting skills to help support our troops? Here is a simple pattern you can use to create a warm comfortable helmet liner for our troops overseas. The seasons are soon changing and in Afghanistan that means quite cold weather"

The guidelines from DAR is that all helmet liners, neck gators and scarves need to be brown, gray, black, tan or a combo of those colors. They also need to be unisex. I have not heard of quilting being used for any of them, only for comfort quilts for the hospitalized and returned soldiers. Last I heard, they did not need liners at the moment.

there's a pattern for a welders hat on line, that would add warmth and absorb sweat when needed. don't have to add the bill if you don't want but it would be something over their head for added warmth

I just checked further and they want 100% wool only because of safety factors. Wool doesn't melt if there is a fire.
