Quilted Stockings

I posted yesterday with a question about thread. I decided to go ahead with the verigated thread and it came out great except for one small thing. I cut this stocking out backwards! Darn it. So the first 2 I made go to the left and this one goes to the right. I'm considering making the 4th and final stocking to the right to match my mistake but something is nagging me to just make another and have them all go in the same direction. I was thinking they might look ok if hung with the 2 lefties to the left and the 2 righties to the right. I would love to hear some of your opinions on this please.

Go with two lefties and two righties!!

Deb watkins 11-23-2014 07:01 AM

Balance it out...two and two!

I'm kind of fussy with those kinds of things so I would probably make a new one and find someone else to give the single one to. But that might just be me. I'm sure whatever you decide will be a wonderful gift and very much treasured!

I am fussy too and probably have a touch of OCD so it's bugging me. I keep telling myself that maybe it's better to have 2 in the opposite direction and they would look nice hanging on a mantle that way but I'm not sure I'm quite convinced yet. The 2 posts above are helping though. Keep the opinions coming, for either side!

I agree with two and two.

I like the idea of 2 & 2 also. It will look like pairs of stockings.

OhCanada 11-23-2014 09:17 AM

It would drive me crazy if they were not all going to the left

I made that same mistake years ago and it still bugs me every year when i hang the stockings. I would fix it and make them all the same.!!!!!

Great idea! Almost all of the women in my family are lefties. Including the women that aren't related to one another. Myself and my mom are the only righties. My 2 sisters, brother's wife, husband's sister, my daughter, and my aunt are all lefties. All the men are righties.

I have a bit of OCD too, but too much matchy matchy is boring. I vote for two lefties and two righties! Maybe alternate them, one left, one right, one left, one right. See how that looks.

Boston1954 11-25-2014 06:52 AM

There is nothing wrong with that. Let them be two and two. It still makes four......

scrapngmom 11-25-2014 10:29 AM

I like the 2 left and 2 right.

JudeWill 11-25-2014 10:55 AM

If you make 2 left & 2 right, you could hang them so that the toes point to the center & frame something on each side.

sewingsuz 11-25-2014 11:04 AM

I vote for the two and two.

Skittl1321 11-25-2014 12:45 PM

I'd go 2 and 2 and hang them like pairs of socks.

ManiacQuilter2 11-25-2014 01:12 PM

I agree two lefties and two righties !

I agree! Or hang them as 2 pairs :).

red-warrior 11-26-2014 05:42 PM

If you are hanging them together from a mantel I think it would work if the 2 pointing right hung on the left and the
other 2 pointing from the other side....all would point to the middle where you could have a bow or arrangement.

I had made stockings for my son and his 3 children. When he remarried I made a stocking for his new wife but didn't remember which way all the stockings faced. Hers ended up different than all the others. The next year I took it back and made her a new one going in the same direction as the rest of the family!

i made stockings for friends last year and made them reversible, so four sides to each stocking.
