Quilted tops for couch seats? Crazy idea?

Four years ago I bought a microfiber couch and two loveseats, supposed to be easy to clean. Yeah, well, they apparently didn't put it through the grandson-cats-new puppy test because this fabric doesn't really come clean. grr...
I've tried everything but it's basically fabric over foam and once smells are in and stains aren't cleaned up right away, well, you know the rest.

Anyway, I was thinking of making covers to lay over the seats, like how they make those quilted things that lay on the end of a bed or over the top of a couch. I thought this might be nicer than just tucking in a sheet, which may be more practical and I can do that in like 30 seconds, lol, but of course, why be easy?

Have you ever made quilted covers for your furniture? Is it worth it?

I have thought the same thing about our recliners....a puppy claw, or a screwdriver, or maybe some scissors poked a hole in the leather and now it's a bigger hole that the "puppy" loves to dig in...

There is a lot of wear and tear when people and dogs are sitting so that is why furniture is made of durable fabrics. Not sure if it would have a long life expectancy. but a great concept!!

You could read that and get an idea.

If you can make it fit properly, go for it! I made one for my recliner out of a cheap store bought quilt...but all I can say is I should stick to quilting! It was very hard to get it to fit properly and I didn't allow enough to go around the top so that it would stay on without constant fiddling with it.

The animals aren't allowed on the furniture - I know the cats sit on the tops when we aren't around - so it isn't so much animal damage as spills from gs - milk, juice, regular accidents. Sheets would be much easier but thinner, and something quilted would give it a few more layers of protection. He's almost 4 now so that stage is over for the most part, but you do want what you're sitting on to be welcoming.

We put quilts on the couch when the granddogs visit. And small quilted runners for the top of the couch for the cats (three). We do not eat in the livingroom and it when we have a movie day, we do cover the couch with quilts just incase. Easier to clean a quilt than a couch. Good luck with your recovering.

This is what I did right after we got our microfiber furniture. It also seems they protect the furniture from us as well. They are easy to remove, wash and put back on.

Leather...that was my last choice and it is really the best!
