We just changed rooms around so I can have a more "quilting friendly" area to quilt in. Does anyone know of a pattern for a valance for the top of a window? I'd like something quick and easy.

Take the window width and x by 1 1/2 to 2x (depends on much fullness you want). Fold material in half lengthwise right sides facing. Sew a seam to close. Turn inside out and come down 11/2" and sew another straight line all the way down. For a 1" rod come down from sewing line 1 1/2" and sew another straight line.

There you go! Rod pocket valance! Easy peasy!!

I'm also interested in a similar pattern. Although we moved back in January, I postponed getting curtains until I knew for sure what I wanted in my sewing/quilting studio. I think I'd like valances on all five windows, plus I may put mini-blinds on the two windows that face the road.

How about trying out some new (to you) blocks in coordinating colors and then joining them side-by-side? Add tabs to the top and hang on a decorative rod.

There was a picture somewhere on this board a few months back where she took strips of fabric and tied them to a rod. It was charming, but I don't know how to find it. Maybe someone remembers this also.
