Quilters Cache Patterns
I haven't used Quilters Cache for a while and when I go there now I find the patterns are a GIF image scaled at various sizes less than 100%.
Even if I tell it to print at 100% it still prints out at less. I'm sure I used to just print them out at 100% without any problems. What am I doing wrong? |
If this is the case it must have happened in the last few months because I printed a block out and it definitely was a 100% scale. I am sorry to say I wouldn't know how to fix it since you said you are printing at the correct size. Maybe have someone else print out the block your looking for to see if there is a problem with your printer?

They have some info on printing in their FAQ page. Don't know if it will help.
http://www.quilterscache.com/FAQ.html Are you printing directly from the website? If so, you might want to save it to your hard drive, then print it from there. |
If they have already scaled the image down, you may have to make it more than 100% to make it larger. The 100% is 100% of the image size. If its already been made smaller, it won't print in the original large size. As PaperPrincess said, you might need to download it to your computer and see if its the original size there or if you need to manipulate it.

I have printed off patterns from their website and haven't had any problems. I wonder if there is a setting on your printer that needs to be adjusted or changed.
|
Thanks for your input ladies. I will check it all out and have another go.
|
Usually when I print templates or such from Quilter's Cache, I find I have to enlarge the pattern to about 133%. You just have to play around with the printer.
|
This may help. Print out what Quilter's Cache is giving you. Should you require a larger size, go to the Proportional Scale and find the percentage of the enlargement needed. Quilter's Cache size: 5", need finished size 7" = enlarge 141%.
I'm taking it for granted that every quilter has a proportional scale. If not, it is an inexpensive tool found at art and office supply stores. Invaluable! |
I have a little check box on my printer set-up that scales the material for printing when it is checked. I don't know what your printer interface is like, but you might check to be sure that you are not allowing your printer to scale the pattern.
|
Does your printer allow you to resize? If so, just play with going up in size try 125% or even up to 150%
|
Thanks ladies.
I don't think the proportional scale will work as the patterns are printing only about an eighth or so short on the 1" test square. My printer is set to "none" for the scale. I think I just need to play with increasing the percentage until I get it right. |
Have you tried holding down your control key and tapping the plus key on your key board the same time before you print.
|
I've discovered that if I print directly from the website, it prints at the wrong size. I usually have to download and save it to my computer, then open the pattern and print. This happens to me with multiple websites, not just Quilter's Cache.
|
Peckish on Quilters Cache I'm just getting the option to save the pattern to my "pictures" file which leaves me with the same sizing issues. How are you downloading it?
|
Thank you so much for this information. I will put shopping at our office supply store for that tool. I can say, honestly, it is one tool I do not have. lol
|
That is an excellent idea. I never thought of that!! Thank you.

For those who might be interested buying the Proportional Scale tool, I went to Office Max/Depot, a sewing store as well as a crafts store today. Office Max/Depot knew what I was describing because of their printing section but didn't sell them, the sewing store (not JAF) and the crafts store didn't know what they were, so I turned to good 'ol Amazon. What I found is the Golden Threads Proportional Scale Quilters Assist. I ordered one from one of the vendors listed for $4.59 plus $4.99 shipping. While it may not help with Quilters Cache scaling, I wanted one because I have seen quilt blocks I would like to do, but I wanted to change the size.
