Hello fellow quilters,

I received an 'invite' to sign up and become a Charter Member of the "Quilters Club of America" today, sponsored by Fons & Porter and Keepsake Quilting - for a fee of $39.95. When they first came out, they wanted $75 to join.

Has anyone else here joined, and felt like it was worth the $$, or not? Here's what this members fee includes:

Thanks for your input.

I joined a few years a go and I am happy.I especially like the discount card for Joanns, gives 10% off total order. If I didn't have a Joanns to go to I might not have joined

I joined last year and it expired. I haven't renewed. I did like the intro package, the magazine and the JoAnn's discount card that I used. I didn't access the online stuff as much as I wanted, always put if off for another time that never happened.

Overall, it wasn't a bad deal at all.

I ditto this. Still thinking of renewing but not sure it is worth it as I don't take advantage of the online access.

I guess it is worth it, depending what you expect from it. I found from a different path. I wanted to be able to see the on-line quilting show with Mark Lipinski (Quilting out loud) that begins later this month. It is done by the people from QNNTV.com.

If you join them, you can see quilting Out Loud as well as many others video clips on line. One option is to also join the Quilting Club of America with for a discounted price. You may want to check into that before making a decision.

joined last year and renewed. I love the Joann's card and I have made stuff from the magazine- easy Quilts. I'm very happy with my membership. Haven't watched the videos- just don't have time.

Is that 10% off on top of any other discounts taken? Like using their 40 or 50% off coupons. Do you get both discounts?

Thanks everyone,

Sounds like the vote here is it would be more worth it if a person took advantage of all the online pattern freebies and the QNN, etc. Unfortunately, I'm still on dial up here, and trying to watch any video is almost impossible. I would appreciate the magazine sub for sure, but not sure about the rest. Hmm. Will see what some others think, too. Thanks so much! :)

If you do not have high speed internet dont buy it. QNNTV is one of the big perks of buying it. Of course you can buy it alone for 25 dollars a yr.
I never used the perks on line either. The quilt magazine is for only 4 issues.
The Tips DVD never did work and they sent me a new one and it did not work either.
I will not renew.

I will probably wait til I do have high speed. Sorry to hear of your negative troubles with the DVD's. Thanks for your reply.

I didn't renew the club but kept the QNNTV membership. I watch the online videos while I'm sewing. The new show Quilt Out Loud is part of the QNNTV membership and it should be a very entertaining quilt show.

Sounds like this might be worth pursuing -- I, too, got an "invitation" to join.

Does anyone remember what the cost is to renew??

nativetexan 07-22-2009 12:01 PM

i was with the American Applique Society for a long time but never got to use my 10% discount at JoAnn's. they always had one excuse or another. I just tossed my renewal in the trash last night. i must behave!!!

I've used my 10% off coupon a LOT. It doesn't work if you're already using a coupon like 40% or 50% off - but it does apply to all other purchases, including sale items. Since here it seems they put everything on sale when the coupons come out so you can't use the coupons, at least I can get the sale price and 10% off the whole purchase price. I haven't watched any of the online stuff....at least not yet.

Don't join if you are on dial up. I did, and couldn't watch the videos. They refunded my money, bc I emailed them immediately.

cjc 07-27-2009 06:41 PM

The same here. I love the magazine, but didn't renew, will get the magazine in the store. After the first month or so, I had watched all the videos and the content didn't change, so decided it wasn't worth it.

I just joined last week and am thoroughly pleased. I have watched several videos on QnnTV. My favorites so far are the Fons & Porter Love of Quilting. I think I'm totally get my moneys worth. I agree with others that the real boon from this membership is being able to watch the videos and if you're not able to do that then it may not be worth the money.

PLoralye 07-28-2014 08:34 AM

are any Canadians here getting the membership? Is it worth it for us?

Geri B 07-28-2014 02:28 PM

Recd the invitation too.....tossed it......joined for a yr once.....I get a 10% discount as a VIP from Joann's...if you belong to a guild apply for one, but cannot be used if there is a coupon for discount on purchase...I find anything I am searching for for free on YouTube or tutes at various sites.......

egbquilter 09-17-2014 09:12 AM

I just joined, paid my money and have not received anything from them except the first magazine, none of the other perks. I have been emailing them for a 10 days and have not received a response as of this time, other than an auto response that they have received my email. I called and left a message today. We'll see how long it takes for this response. Very disappointed so far- and I had such good expectations.

DonnaC 09-17-2014 10:22 AM

I used to be a member, egbquilter, and I can tell you they are SLOW. Don't even bother e-mailing them, they never answer... well actually, they answered me SIX MONTHS after I sent the original e-mail, and then it was a "we can't help you please e-mail this other address" response which I just laughed about, it was so ridiculous. I recall that it took at least a month for me to get my introductory package with the coupons and other stuff in it. Like others have said, I just didn't have time to watch all the videos on QNNTV although I did enjoy it. I felt it would be better to just buy the magazine and let the rest go, so I didn't renew.

bigsister63 09-17-2014 12:01 PM

If you belong to a quilt guild the you can get a Joann's VIP card! you do not need to suscribe to a magazine or join a quild such as this.

VaQuiltgal 09-17-2014 01:21 PM

I was a member for 2 years. Enjoyed the videos when I could watch them but had a really hard time getting online with them. Finally when I got disgusted with it not working right I wrote to them, asked for a prorated refund and much to my surprise they refunded the whole amount. This was about 6 montha ago when they were going through a sale. Can't remember if F&P was taking it over or they were selling. I did like the magazine but I can buy that at the store.

CookyIN 09-17-2014 01:30 PM

I got an invite from them a few weeks ago. They tried to stroke my ego by proclaiming me a "gold" member or some-such. I laughed because in my head I heard the voice of young George Bailey in "It's a Wonderful Life" bragging to Mary, "I've been accepted for membership in The National Geographic Society."

I haven't got time to watch the videos now so tossed it. Good to know that many of you are happy with it though.
