Just read through the Feb/Mar Quilter's Home Magazine and it was half home-dec, recipes, and the rest - not very interesting articles. Anyone else disappointed?

I have dropped all my quilting magazine subs because of that very reason. Too much advertising, too many non-relevant articles and not that many quilt patterns I want to try.

I couldn't even finish mine. They try to copy Mark's style, but that is not possible. Some of the articles were informative, but not fun to read withour his touch.

I think there is so much you can find on the internet now on information on quilting, that you really dont need a magazine. I have thought about getting some but looked through them at the store and they didnt seem to have much in them that was usefull!

Ive been dropping all my mags mostly because it is to hard to find patterns later on. I love looking thru them when I first get them but after that they are useless.

I save my money and just use the Internet for my patterns.

I have an online subscription to Quilter's World. 15.00 for 6 issue plus access to two years of back issues... Gotta love that. I download the issues and print a project when I am ready to start it.

I leaf through quilting magazines at the grocery store, drug store and Wal-MArt. If something really looks different and I think I'd like to do one of the projects I buy the magazine. I keep a list like this in my quilting note book:

MAGAZINE / ISSUE / PAGE/ NAME of Project/ MY IDEAS

SO when I am ready for a project I don't have to spend hours looking through magazines.

I am NOT very organized but this is my favorite way of dealing with magazines!

I love going to the public library to look at the new quilting magazines. If I really like a project or an article in it, then I will go buy that issue. If not, then I was still able to enjoy the magazine and at the same time, saved money! I can also check out older issues of quilting magazines to take home. The newest issues have to stay at the library until the next issue comes out.

I agree with all of your responses. I was going to drop the magazine anyway, and this issue confirms that decision. I have stopped 2 magazines, still keep Fons and Porter and McCalls, and Quilter's World, but find fewer patterns and techniques that interest me. Nice to keep up on the new gadgets that are advertised. Mammagus, I like your idea notebook idea because it's so hard to find a pattern in an old magazine!! I didn't know about the online subscription, would save a lot of shelf space! Our library has old pattern books, but no current quilt magazines. The internet has a lot available, hope that continues in spite of the new subscription only quilt sites.

I agree with you...Without Marks wit & touch, it just lacks greatly. I will not be renewing my subscription.

I subscribe to Quilters World and The Quilter Magazine (?) and I am happy with them and really enjoy the articles and projects. I have a dear friend in Texas that sent a huge box of older quilting magazines and I am still having fun going through them putting sticky notes on the projects I would like to tackle.

But I did cancel a couple of my car magazines like Street Rodder and Rod and Custom. And I have had subscriptions to those magazines since I was a freshman in high school. So what does that tell you......this quilting bug is something else!!!! :lol: :lol: :lol:

I started categorizing magazine quilt patterns on my computer several years ago, but so far I'm only up to 2006! I just KNOW if I get rid of any old magazine, that will be the ONE pattern I want. ;-)

I suppose it's only disappointing if you expected a magazine full of patterns. Quilter's Home never was that kind of magazine. For that matter neither is Quilter's Newsletter Magazine but you don't see the same level of complaints about it.

There *needs* to be other types of quilt magazines.

If you don't like a magazine for whatever reason, don't read it. But don't think just because you don't like a magazine it shouldn't exist for other people that DO like it.

No one suggested the magazine shouldn't exist, just that it wasn't our "cup of tea" as even Mark Lipinski may express it! Hopefully, for the magazine, there will still be many who enjoy it. :) :)

What's the point in coming here and complaining about it then?

It's not like anybody here can do anything about it one way or another. If you really want to voice your opinion send it to the magazine publishers.

I guess I just get tired of all the complaints about everything.

I like Quilter's Newsletter for the coverage of international innovative quilts. I also like their patterns for more difficult quilts. I save them in the hopes of being able to do one of them in the not too distant future. I just need more practice to be able to do them....hopefully!!!

Hi Sawsan: Which 'Old' you mean? Do you mean the traditional patterns?? They are my favorites, too. I need to do more of them because they are what attracted me to quilting in the first place. What kind of quilts do you like to make??

The Quilter's Newsletter has always been in my opinion a quite scholarly magazine, and had a lot of great information on technique, math formulas, etc. I have saved all of them, but haven't subscribed the last few years. Hmmmmm--time to look through them again. As I remember, a lot of their patterns used templates, I'll have to look at some new issues and see what they are doing these days.

A sad day in the quiting world,when Quilters Home lost Mark! I have every issue and met Mark a few times.
I will not be getting anymore magazines from that publisher. Mark brought a different pizzaz to his magazine,which was so much fun to read.
I hope he makes it with his fabric line and working with Olfray ribbons.

He just signed up for a year's worth of programs on QNN, so I think he'll be OK!!

Received my quilter's home mag today. It really is a disappointment. I so enjoyed looking forward to getting my issue each time. I would pour over the pages, read it from cover to cover. Then I didn't even realize that something was missing, but knew something was amiss. Then it dawned on me. Mark was missing. Guess I wasn't reading close enough :oops:

The new editors are trying. But it is kind of like when we were in school. No one can ever copy that really cool dude. You just don't know what it is that makes him so popular and so cool. He just has that "IT" factor. Well, Mark was that guy. Quilter's home is now suffering. It just feels like a bunch of wannabes, and it is falling way short.

Too bad I signed up for 2 years. I am hoping I can maybe get a refund. Just can't stand to read the wannabe's anymore.

I dropped my Quilter's Newsletter subscription and never subscribed to Quilter's Home for the same reason....when I buy a quilt magazine, I want to talk about quilting, not politics. Mark is such a crack-up, but as the issues went on, he got vitriolic in his politics. I so don't want to hear that. Politics is all we hear about on the news and quilting is my escape for a short time! I want the gossipy parts and the funny quilt stuff he is famous for. It got better the last year and then I was reading an issue of QH and said to myself, Mark is slipping on this one. Well, it wasn't even him! They were just trying to make it sound like it was him. Urgh. I don't buy it at all now. I guess I buy magazines for the articles and the updates on tools, techniques, and such.

I keep telling myself I have enough quilting magazines(I cannot seem to part with them either), but I continue to buy new ones. I just love to look at the quilts and project and dream of making them.

Me too. I got a call from Quilter's Newsletter with an offer "you just can't refuse..." and I told the nice young man that the reason I quit the mag was not the price but the fact that they changed format and I was displeased. He had little to say to that.
